Buona sera ragazzi. So summertime has finally arrived both on the calendar and in reality out there on our lovely little island. We didn't get off to the best of starts this morning with some cloud lingering and a few spots of light rain but that gradually wore away to leave a bright, sunny late morning and afternoon. It's stayed reasonably hot throughout the day, hovering around the 23° Celsius (73° Fahrenheit) mark while right now things have cooled down and the sun is heading off to wherever it goes at this time of the evening. The forecast for tomorrow looks very similar to what we've had today while we should see a significant leap in temperatures from Wednesday onwards. Today's photo comes from Fishermen's Beach in Ischia Ponte. A domani. Ciao :-)
Evening all. After some brief respite yesterday from this prolonged spell of unsettled weather, things have regressed once again. Since early this morning we've seen a gradual build-up of some nasty looking clouds which have yielded water throughout the day but particularly during the afternoon. Last night we saw some very heavy downpours as well and it really has been quite out of keeping with what you'd normally expect to see in June. It's been much cooler today as well and right now at 5:45pm it's down to 21° Celsius (70° Fahrenheit), significantly down on yesterday. Looking ahead, conditions should remain as they are now until tomorrow morning before clearing up nicely. In fact tomorrow is officially the first day of summer so let's hope it lives up to the name! Ciao :-)
Good evening everyone. It's been a much more normal day in terms of the weather today and we haven't had many of those of late! As you'd expect at this time of year it's been unbroken sunshine all day with just the wispiest of wispy clouds adding a little pattern to the sky. Right now at 6:45pm it's 25° Celsius (77° Fahrenheit) and not feeling quite as humid as it did yesterday. As we get through this evening we should see a build-up of cloud and an outside chance of some light rain before clearing by tomorrow morning. The general outlook still isn't completely settled with the possibility of a brief storm late tomorrow afternoon but aside from that it should be a generally pleasant day. Today's photo comes from the Cenatiempo Vineyard in Serrara Fontana and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. Italy and Ischia in particular reawaken after the double-whammy of the siesta combined with the national team's match at Euro 2016. In fact until the last 5 minutes the match itself was little more than a siesta but congratulations to Italy and commiserations to all our Swedish friends. "What's the weather doing?" I hear you ask (well, I imagine you ask at least). Well the short answer is it's pretty good and with a little detail added I can tell you that right now at 5:30pm it's 25° Celsius (77° Fahrenheit) and after some wind and fairly rough seas this morning things have gradually calmed down throughout the day, a process that seems to be almost perpetual at the moment. The forecasts for tomorrow are looking terrific with plenty of sunshine expected. Ciao :-)
Hi everyone. It's another balmy evening in Ischia on what has been a really strange day of weather. This morning we started out with some severe winds causing problems at sea and for the most part of the day it's been cloudy and even dark at times. However, it hasn't rained and now that the wind has died right down it's feeling really humid. The temperature right now at 6:30pm is 27° Celsius (81° Fahrenheit) and we have the rather strange phenomenon of the bright sun pitched against a sky that defines the word grey. Now that I think of it I'm not even sure I can explain how that's possible, are there any meteorologists out there to shed light on this? Anyway, the outlook for the next couple of days is much more positive and let's hope things stay that way for a while. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. A sweltering, humid afternoon is gradually drawing to a close. Outside a little bird lands on top of a telegraph pole, has a little scan around before flapping its wings to find a new vantage point, perhaps admiring the colourful array of hibiscus just below it or more likely, looking for a quick snack of the worm variety. Right now at 7pm it's still really hot, 28° Celsius (83° Fahrenheit) which is significantly hotter than what we've had recently. This morning started with some wind and rough seas but as the day wore on everything has calmed down significantly. The picture for tomorrow is a bit hard to fathom at the moment, there may well be some strong winds around but nothing is certain with the weather at the moment. Back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Hi everyone. It's been another busy day in Ischia with the island gradually filling up as we approach the official beginning of summer which is precisely seven days from now. It's also the Festa di San Vito in Forio, a series of events from today until Friday which celebrate the town's patron saint of the same name. Fireworks, fun and food are very much the order of the day for the festa and definitely worth a peek in the evenings after a hard day's sunbathing. The weather is still a bit unpredictable at the moment, the main feature of the day being the wind which has caused some rough conditions out at sea. Right now at 7:30pm it's 22° Celsius (72° Fahrenheit) and sunny with the wind still a factor. Tomorrow should be a bit calmer and warmer too so until then. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. It's been a day of excitement in Ischia, excitement of the A-list Hollywood superstar variety with a visit from two of the biggest names in modern-day cinema. Touring around these parts on the 54 metre yacht "Mischief" were no less than Will Smith and Denzel Washington! A throng of selfie-seeking fans invaded the normally sleepy town of Lacco Ameno this morning and many were rewarded with smiley snapshots alongside their heroes. On the weather front it's been a mostly positive day but we didn't get off to the best start this morning with some cloud and strong winds. Right now at 8pm it's 23° Celsius (73° Fahrenheit), clear overhead and with that wind still lingering a bit. Tomorrow looks like a similar story but it's almost impossible to predict at the moment. Ciao :-)
Buona sera ragazzi. It's a cloud-bound Sunday evening in Ischia as we approach the end of a mixed day of weather. The sun has threatened and occasionally managed to pop its head above the parapet but without ever feeling cold, it's been cloudy for the most part of the day. Right now at 6:30pm it's 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit) and as I watch a vintage schooner enter and exit stage left in front of me, the most noticeable thing is the lack of wind, creating an almost surreal atmosphere when coupled with the thick grey backdrop. Looking into the crystal ball tomorrow's skies promise to be more Mediterranean than Nordic with normal service expected to resume. The week that follows is also shaping up nicely with a sharp rise in temperatures from Thursday. Ciao :-)
Afternoon all. We've got a very pleasant Saturday on our hands, mostly sunny but with a few clouds providing occasional shade and a wind that's strong enough to offer some encouragement to a few windsurfers down at Citara Beach this morning. Right now at 3:30pm its 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit) with the sun's on/off switch seemingly malfunctioning and caught somewhere in the middle. Conditions should remain the same for the rest of the day and then as we get into tomorrow the picture looks a little unsettled, temperatures should remain steady but there will be a threat throughout the day of showers. Today's photo comes from the curious mushroom-shaped rock in the town of Lacco Ameno know as "Il Fungo" and I'll be back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
