Hello everyone and it's all change in Ischia where right now at 7:45pm we're experiencing a meteorological phenomenon known as rain! It's been more than 70 days since we had the last decent downpour and with the skies constantly rumbling all day like an approaching war, the rain has finally arrived. It seems to have stopped for the time being but as an Englishman well-versed in these matters I'm certain it'll be back soon. I know it's not what most visitors to Ischia want but it's quite a sight gazing out to sea watching an electric storm brewing, summed up well by today's photo taken by Chiaia Beach in Forio. Today's maximum temperature by the way was a mere 30° Celcius (86° Fahrenheit) with 24°C (75°F) expected tonight.I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona domenica everybody. The weather reports will tell you that it's due to be considerably cooler in Ischia today than of late but I can confirm having just consulted the official Ischia Review thermometer right now at 2:45pm that it's still a full 33° Celcius (91° Fahrenheit). Everything is just that bit busier on the island today, the beaches, the hotels, the restaurants and of course the roads but it's all good fun and great to see so many people out and about, especially in the evenings. Speaking of which, tonight should see a minimum of 26°C (79°F) but things do look a bit unsettled for Monday and Tuesday with some rain forecast and perhaps a storm to follow too. Today's photo is from the beautiful Zaro in Forio, looking down on to San Francesco Beach. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Afternoon all on what is one of the busiest days of the year in Ischia. The week that builds up to August 15th, the national holiday known as "Ferragosto" in Italy, and the week that follows are the busiest two summer weeks on the island and there's expected to be a large number of visitors arriving today. When they get here they'll find blue skies and very hot temperatures once again, right now at 3:15pm for example it's 34° Celcius (93° Fahrenheit) with a sweltering evening in store as well, dropping no lower than 27°C (81°F) tonight. However, a change is on the way with temperatures significantly dropping next week and some rain predicted as well. Today's photo comes from Maronti Beach in the morning before it fills up with people and I'll be back with more tomorrow, ciao :-)
Buona sera everyone. If my records are correct (this is by no means certain) today is the hottest day of the year so far and right now at 5:30pm the temperature is 36° Celcius (97° Fahrenheit). It's been sunny throughout the day but right now there are a few hazy clouds moving in and there is a chance of some rain this evening. In fact there is a significant change in the weather expected after the weekend with next week set to be a lot cooler than it's been of late. After a great night out at the Wine and Sausage festival in Fontana last night there was the need for some healthy redress this morning in the form of fresh figs for breakfast. It's that time of year when there are so many figs that the majority are sun-dried to be eaten later, as shown in today's photo. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Afternoon all and welcome back to a sizzling hot Ischia. The crickets (apologies to any Australian visitors for mentioning this word today) are rattling away outside and having just consulted the thermometer I can tell you that right now at 4:30pm it's 35° Celcius (95° Fahrenheit) and we won't go below 27°C (81°F) at any stage this evening. Conditions will stay like this until Sunday but the start of next week looks like it might bring a change with cooler temperatures and some rainfall also expected. Anyone who fancies a drink tonight you'd do worse than making your way to the village of Fontana where they're holding the "Wine and Sausage Festival" (Sagra del vino e Sauciciatta) which is always good fun. Today's photo comes from Sant'Angelo and I'll be back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Good evening everyone. Running a bit late with the update today but what I can tell you is that it's been another gorgeous day in Ischia. We've once again had temperatures up in the mid 30's and even right now at 9:15pm it's still 29° Celcius ( 84° Fahrenheit). The forecast for the next three days shows those bright red sun icons which means it's going to get even hotter but it does look like there might be some respite from Sunday onwards with some much needed rain expected. So with darkness now fully descended I think I'll bid you all a very pleasant evening, today's photo coming from Citara Beach in Forio where we get some dramatic, beautiful sunsets to enjoy almost every evening. I'll be back with another weather and photo update tomorrow so until then, ciao :-)
Evening all! Welcome back to a surprisingly quiet Ischia where the usual August hordes are yet to materialise. Could it be that people are leaving it a week later this year? Who knows but the result is a very tranquil island and it gives us all a bit of a breather before it gets really busy again. You won't be surprised to hear that it's been another sizzling afternoon and right now at 6:45pm it's still 33° Celcius (91° Fahrenheit). The rest of the week should go a similar way but there is mention of a storm on Sunday and a couple of drops of rain the following day which would be most welcome after such a long dry spell. For today's photo I've chosen Ristorante Pallone on Maronti Beach, one of many that share the fantastic views across to Sant'Angelo. Back with more tomorrow, ciao :-)
Ciao ragazzi! How's Monday treating you all? It's another blisteringly hot afternoon here in Ischia. Right now at 5pm it's 33° Celcius (91° Fahrenheit) and we're set fair for another week of pretty much the same conditions. During the middle of the week the temperature will actually rise a little bit. It's been a long time since we've had any kind of significant downpour or even a storm, possibly as far back as early June so it really has been an extraordinarily hot summer this year. There is a tiny drop of rain predicted for later but not enough to keep you cool so for anybody who is here right now I would suggest being close to water, be that a pool, the sea or even just an icy cold drink. Today's photo comes from a beach in Sant'Angelo and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone and I hope you're all enjoying a buona domenica! We've got another sweltering Sunday with the tiniest piece of effort resulting in beads of sweat running down the face (I've checked and I'm happy to confirm this isn't just me!), the thermometer reading right now at 4pm is 32° Celcius (90° Fahrenheit) but for some reason it feels a bit hotter than it has over the last few days. There were a few clouds around this morning and some very light drops of rain too but that soon gave way to the bright and sunny conditions that we have now. Equestrian fans will be interested to know there's a horse acrobatics show on tonight in Forio harbour and apart from that I'll leave you with the cheerful sight of a typical Ischian micro-taxi. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Buona sera folks! Another glorious afternoon starts to fade into the memory giving way for another one of those beautiful sunsets to be followed by a star-filled evening. Can't be bad can it? It's Saturday the 1st of August and two of those words mean this is one of the busiest days of the year in Ischia, when the weather is at its hottest and Italy in general starts to think about a holiday. Right now at 6:15pm the crickets are in full voice so presumably 33° Celcius (91° Fahrenheit) is hot enough to get them chirping. There's no real news on the weather front so aside from mentioning the minimum temperature tonight will be 25°C (77°F) I'll leave you with a shot of one very lucky person's own personal path down to the sea. Any clues where it is? Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
