MONTECORVO
MONTECORVO
With its location in the hills between Forio and Panza, Montecorvo has a rustic and authentic feel to it. There are seats outside on the terrace with an elevated position looking out across Ischia and the sea beyond. The inside area of the restaurant is an old building carved out of the local tufa stone, with lots of original features and some interesting artefacts.
Montecorvo is a family-run restaurant with the husband and wife duo of Carmela and Giovanni ably assisted by their children Nicola and Antonio. Due to its location which means it's realistically only reachable by car, it doesn't attract passing trade but is well worth the trouble to visit both for its location but more importantly for the food that is of a very high standard.
Specialising in meat and fish dishes with a good variation of sides and starters to choose from. Many dishes are cooked in the wood oven such as baked fish, sautéed meat and “Coniglio all'Ischitana”, the traditional rabbit dish of Ischia. We particularly recommend the antipasti which are some of the best on the island. You can order either a fish based selection or the "Terra" which centres around meat and vegetables. Once you've made the order the plates come out one at a time to create an absolute feast of delicious food. In fact it's quite difficult to get on to a main course because there's so much variety that you'll most likely be full by the end. If you do still have some space at the end of the meal there are some wonderful home made desserts on offer.
The staff here are extremely professional and friendly, happy to explain all the dishes that are on the menu and in English too. They'll also suggest the best wines to complement your meal.
During the summer you'll regularly find somebody tickling the ivories on the piano forte in the indoor dining room which just adds to the magical and unique atmosphere of the whole place. Highly recommended.

Directions:
Montecorvo is in an area between Forio and its near neighbour, Panza. Set high up in the hills, it is best reached either by car, taxi or as part of a day hiking around Mount Epomeo. From Forio town centre take the main road towards Panza and drive for about 10 minutes, passing Citara bay on your right and then climbing a twisting road before you eventually see the slip-road for Panza on your right. At the point where you see the slip-road for Panza on your right, you will see a left-hand turning and if you look carefully you can see a small sign directing you to Montecorvo. This road climbs up the mountain and the restaurant is well sign-posted from this point onwards, at which you are around 5 minutes away.
There is a slightly confusing final sign for the restaurant, where the road forks right up a hill or left down a slope. The sign is a little bit ambiguous as it points in the general direction of both roads but it is the left hand road down the slope that you need to take. Follow this road for another couple of hundred metres and you then see the restaurant entrance and car park in front of you.
