A quick overview of Ischia explaining where it is, how to get there and some of the things to do on the island.
Ischia is split up into six different municipalities which are called 'commune' in Italian with each one having its own characteristics. Most people's first sight of the island is the main port which is known locally as 'Ischia' and can sometimes cause a bit of confusion when it's being mentioned as the town rather than the island. The other five comuni on the island are Forio, Casamicciola, Barano, Lacco Ameno and Serrara Fontana. |

Something that most visitors to the island are interested in finding out about are the beaches of Ischia of which there are around 20 in total including the beautiful Maronti beach pictured on the right. There's also a collection of beautiful gardens of Ischia with the most famous of those being La Mortella in Forio. One of the main things to do is kind of doing nothing! The island is famous for the volcanic activity which blesses it with a number of hot springs which can be enjoyed in different ways. A visit to one of the half dozen or so Ischia Thermal Spas is an absolute must if you're staying on the island with the most popular of those being the Poseidon Thermal Gardens in Forio and the Negombo Thermal Gardens in Lacco Ameno. You can while away the hours in the sunshine relaxing in the thermal water parks. |
