Good afternoon folks! I could almost write verbatim the same update as yesterday because we're having exactly the same type of day. It's been raining for most of the day, at times heavy and when it hasn't been raining it's been cloudy as it is right now at 3:30pm. The temperature right now is 11° Celcius (52° Fahrenheit) and that's how it will stay for the rest of the day. It looks like we might have a brief respite tomorrow with some clearer spells expected but more rain is expected to follow. For today's photo I've chosen Bagno Muga on Maronti Beach which looks like it could belong somewhere in the Alps (if it wasn't for the sea in the background!). This is just one of dozens of beach bars and restaurants on what is Ischia's largest beach. Anyway, that's all for today, a domani :-)
Good afternoon everybody. We've got a drizzly, overcast afternoon here on the island after what was actually a bright start to the working week this morning. There was some brief respite from yesterday's heavy rain but we look set for a period of unsettled weather right through the week and the temperature right now at 2:15pm is 12° Celcius (54° Fahrenheit). One of the first signs of spring comes when a curious rubbery plant starts to bloom with its bright purple and yellow flowers. Shown in today's photo, the plant known in Italy as "Unghie di Strega" ("Witches' Nails") is known better to some as an Ice Plant, Pig Face or Sour Fig. They're not quite in bloom yet but when they are they create spectacular displays such as this one in Sant'Angelo. A domani :-)
Morning all! It's a pretty grim start to the day unfortunately, we've had lots of rain overnight and it's carried on again this morning. I say unfortunately but actually we do need a bit every now and then so at least it's good for the plants in the garden which are all starting to show some pre-spring signs of life. The rest of today is forecast to the same as it is now, temperatures are down a bit on previous days and right now at 9:45am it's a touch over 11° Celcius (52° Fahrenheit). Tomorrow looks like it should be much nicer but the following week will be quite unsettled. I've chosen an appropriate image for today's photo, this beautiful rainbow that peered out from behind a lemon tree in Forio. The Ischia on Sunday blog will be on-screen a little later today so until then, ciao :-)
Good afternoon folks! We've got another one of those grey cloudy days today. The temperature is currently 16° Celcius (60° Fahrenheit) and we've had a few spots of rain so far, but only very light drizzle up to this point. Things should stay this way until tonight when there is some heavier rain expected and forecast to stay around all day tomorrow but giving way to some brighter conditions on Monday. For today's photo I've chosen the Chiesa di Sant'Antonio di Padova in Casamicciola. This was taken a few days ago and shows one of those really nice views of the mainland that you can get from high up in the town. This church is one of three that share the same name, the others being in Ischia Porto and Fontana. Back with another update and the blog tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Ciao a tutti! It's a quarter to 3 in the afternoon and we've had a pretty grey, cloudy day so far with the odd outbreak of sun here and there. The temperature right now is 15° Celcius (59° Fahrenheit), feeling perhaps a touch under that with the light breeze. We've reached the stage where the sunset is incrementally later each day by between 1 and 3 minutes and today is the first time this year that it will arrive after 5pm (17:01 to be exact). Looking ahead at the weather the forecasts are suggesting a nice day tomorrow followed by rain on Sunday and at various times next week. Today's photo is from a "Tamorra" shop in Naples. The Tamorra is a kind of tambourine and forms a major part of Neapolitan folk music which you must give a try! A domani, ciao :-)
Good afternoon everybody. It's a bit of a late update today as we've been beavering away making some changes to the website. The time now is 2:45pm and the current temperature is 19° Celcius (66° Fahrenheit) and for the last hour or so the sun's been poking its head out to say hello. Previous to that we had a fair bit of cloud around but no rain as yet and in fact there's none predicted until Sunday. As mentioned we've been doing a lot of work on the website, adding dozens of new pages for churches, bars, restaurants and villas. Many of these pages aren't 100% finished but they do at least come with photos until we get the chance to add a bit more detail. Today's photo is one of the beautiful yellow roses in our garden that I mentioned yesterday. Back tomorrow :-)
Buongiorno everyone. Wow, what a gorgeous day! It's just after 2pm and the temperature gauge is showing 19° Celcius (66° Fahrenheit) and we're not even halfway through January yet! It really does feel like spring at the moment and we've got red, yellow and pink roses blooming in the garden, that can't be right can it? We're not complaining anyway and we'll enjoy the conditions while they last. There will be some significant periods of rain between now and the official beginning of spring but that's some way off yet. Today's photo comes from the lovely Pasticceria Mike in Panza where they've always got such beautiful displays of cakes and other stuff such as these colourful coffee tins. That's all for today, we'll be back with more tomorrow but now it's time for lunch. Ciao!
Good afternoon everybody. We've got an absolutely gorgeous day here with bright sunshine and a very warm feeling 18° Celcius (64° Fahrenheit). I've delayed today's update a bit because yesterday I somewhat jumped the gun, explaining how it was grey and windy but fir the majority of the day we had clear skies and the wind died down to leave spring-like conditions. The outlook for the rest of the week remains very positive with a lot more sunshine to come although with these clear skies it does tend to get a bit chilly in the evenings and also first thing in the morning. Today's photo comes from the village of Barano where most days you will find these beautiful hand-made ceramics on sale outside the Chiesa di San Sebastiano Martire. Have a great day, I'll be back tomorrow :-)
Buongiorno a tutti or good morning everyone to give you both versions! Things have turned a bit chilly in Ischia this morning and not just chilly but windy too. We've got blue skies and the sun is out but the temperature has dropped to 11° Celcius (52° Fahrenheit) and with these pretty fierce winds it feels decidedly cold. The winds are expected to die down a bit as we go through the day and generally speaking those should be the conditions for the week ahead. After revealing my failed mission to photograph every one of the island's 70 (some say more) churches last night I feel it's only right to show one of them on today's photo. This is one of my favourites, Chiesa di San Ciro in Serrara Fontana with its distinctive green tufa stone exterior. Back again tomorrow, ciao :-)
Good morning everyone and buona domenica! For the third day in a row we've got these grey, cloudy conditions with a hint of dampness in the air although no rain is expected until later on tonight. The temperature right now is 15° Celcius (59° Fahrenheit) and with the very gentlest of breezes it feels quite warm for the time of year. Things look to be brightening up tomorrow and for the rest of next week so let's hope that turns out to be right. Today's photo comes from the lounge bar Terrazza 91 in Casamicciola whom as you can see, have a four-poster bed as part of their furniture. I'm not 100% sure what the idea of it is but it should make the evenings there pass with a little extra excitement! I'll be back later with the weekly blog anyway so enjoy your day :-)
