Evening all. Night time has descended in Ischia at the end of a more wintry-feeling day than we've had for a while. There were some brief outbreaks of sunshine this morning but apart from that it's been mainly cloudy and within the last hour or so it's also started to rain. Right now at 7pm it's 12° Celsius (54° Fahrenheit) and this layer of cloud looks set to stick around along with a gradually-building wind through until tomorrow morning, when more rain is expected. In fact that seems to be the pattern for the week ahead which actually isn't a bad thing as we're way down on our quota of rain for the year. Actually I think I saw something on the news about a drought recently but that may have been my poor grasp of Italian! Today's photo comes from Sant'Angelo. A domani :-)
Afternoon everyone. We've got a similarly glorious day to what we had yesterday in Ischia. Again the morning was quite cold after a very clear night but things gradually warmed up as the sun rose over Mount Epomeo in Forio. Right now at 4:15pm it's 15° Celsius (59° Fahrenheit) and that time of day where I have to close the curtains to avoid squinting with the sun incessantly bursting through the windows. Tonight should stay clear and starry again but tomorrow looks like it might bring about a bit of a change with some cloud and wind moving in. The week that follows appears quite unsettled too with some showers and storms forecast. Today's photo comes from the road down to Maronti Beach in Barano and I'll be back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. We've got a glorious winter day here in Ischia, full of bright sunshine and not a cloud to be seen. With those clear skies we had a very starry night last night followed by a chilly morning where my scooter coughed and spluttered a bit before being gently persuaded to get a move on. Right now at 4pm it's a very pleasant 15° Celsius (59° Fahrenheit) with the sun partially blinding me as it gradually lowers over the west coast. The rest of this evening should stay clear and tomorrow is expected to be a repeat of today with similar temperatures and no wind to speak of. By Sunday though we could be clouded over and the wind is also expected to get up a bit. Today's photo comes from Le Fumarole Beach in Sant'Angelo and I'll be back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. Darkness has just descended on Ischia in the form of another incredible sunset. This one started off with a pale pink colour that turned into a deep red before leaving behind the warm orange glow that's currently sitting on the horizon. It's been a bit of a topsy-turvy day with the weather but on the whole quite pleasant. This morning we had some really strong winds causing lots of travel disruption with the ferries and hydrofoils but after a while it died down to leave a sunny and warm afternoon. The temperature has dropped somewhat since then, down to 10° Celsius (50° Fahrenheit) right now at 6pm. Tomorrow should be sunny with hardly any wind expected and feeling warmer. For today's photo I've chosen Forio harbour. Buona serata. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. It's all a bit "né carne né pesce" (the Italian version of "neither here nor there" which roughly translates as "neither meat nor fish"), today with the weather having one of its more indecisive days. We had a few light spits of rain this morning and since then it's been somewhere between hazy and cloudy with the sun doing its level best to pop through but generally failing. Right now at 4:15pm it's 15° Celsius (59° Fahrenheit) and quite gloomy except for the bright orb of the sun that's gradually making its way seawards. From tomorrow through to Saturday we're expecting things to be much brighter but with perhaps a slight decrease in temperature. For today's photo I've chosen a shot of Cava Grado Beach in Sant'Angelo and I'll be back again tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona sera everyone. It's a totally different atmosphere in Ischia this evening compared to my update yesterday. The little burst of spring-like temperatures lasted no more than a day before treading a more familiar path. After an extremely clear evening full of stars last night, some overnight rain followed and since then it's been mostly cloudy with the occasional outbreak of sunshine. Right now at 5:15pm it's 14° Celsius (57° Fahrenheit) with a very gloomy sky that Turner would have enjoyed painting. This blanket of cloud is expected to last for the rest of the evening and followed by a good chance of some showers tomorrow. Things are expected to brighten up a bit from Thursday onwards though. For now I'll leave you with a micro-taxi in Ischia Ponte and back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. We've got an absolutely gorgeous day to welcome in the new week and the new month. The sun is out and there's not a cloud to be seen but the real difference is the temperature which I'm sure is higher than anything we've had since November last year. Right now at 3:45pm it's a whopping 18° Celsius (64° Fahrenheit), warm enough to have all the windows open and not feel any difference. The forecasts for the next few days show that this may be a brief blip so it's probably best to get outside and enjoy it while it lasts. Generally speaking the weather for this week is expected to fluctuate between sunshine, cloud and a little bit of rain with temperatures a touch lower than today. For today's photo I've chosen a shot of sunny Sant'Angelo. A domani. Ciao :-)
