Afternoon all. After a bank holiday start to the week we're rapidly coming towards the weekend and things are gradually warming up here in Ischia. We've got another nice, sunny day and from where I'm sitting I can't see any clouds. The stiff wind we had yesterday has also fizzled out leaving us with a warmer feeling and the temperature right now at 2pm is 16° Celcius (61° Fahrenheit). We're still experiencing some cold evenings, tonight's minimum for example will be 7°C (45°F) but next week looks like it'll be a bit more seasonal, particularly at night time. For today's photo I've chosen the beautiful wisteria (glicine in Italian) plant which has started to bloom all over the island. Its beautiful, jasmine-like aroma filling the air with spring joy. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Ciao a tutti! We've got a very bright, sunny afternoon in Ischia today. I'll stop short of describing it as a warm day because we've still got a pretty stiff breeze around which is making the sea look a bit angry. Just coming up to 230pm the temperature is 14° Celcius (57° Fahrenheit) and we're in for another cold night with a minimum of 4°C (39°F) expected. By the weekend the evenings will be a good deal warmer as will the afternoons, making it feel a bit more like a genuine spring in Ischia. Actually riding around on the scooter this morning it was interesting to note the changing colours of the landscape with the predominantly yellow flowers now being joined by a few reds and oranges as shown in today's photo. Anyway, back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon all. Easter's over and we're all back to normal again as the working week belatedly begins. The topsy turvy weather continues today, this morning we had some really strong winds making conditions rough both at sea and on land. It's still a bit breezy and although it's quite sunny, it does still feel cold with the temperature right now at 2pm 11° Celcius (52° Fahrenheit). We're in for an even colder evening, unseasonably so in fact, dropping down to a low of 4°C (39°F) tonight. The warm afternoon/cold evening pattern will continue this week but gradually warming up at both ends of the scale before a much better week in the offing next week. Today's photo comes from one of the pretty courtyards in Castello Aragonese. Back with more tomorrow, ciao :-)
Afternoon everybody. Easter continues today with "Pasquetta" (kind of "Little Easter"), a national holiday with most shops and business closed for the day which is usually spent by families taking picnic. The weather has improved significantly from what we had yesterday, we had a bit of a grey start but the sun is gradually starting to poke its head out every now and then. The temperature right now at 2:30pm is 13° Celcius (55° Fahrenheit), feeling a bit nippy and it'll drop a bit this evening too, down to around 9°C (48°F). The rest of the week looks pretty positive, some warm, sunny afternoons but chilly at night. Today's photo shows what's in season at the local supermarkets with some beautiful local produce on offer. Back with more tomorrow anyway, ciao :-)
Happy Easter everyone or Buona Pasqua as they say in these parts! Just as it was yesterday, the weather has again been playing up a bit today and has sadly put paid to the day's main event, La Corsa dell'Angelo in Forio. However, we are reliably informed that an attempt will be made to hold the event tomorrow instead, weather-permitting of course. At the moment we've got some heavy rain and strong winds so it's not really ideal for a picnic which is one of the main traditions on the island at this time of year but again we'll hope for better conditions tomorrow. The temperature right now at 1pm is 13° Celcius (55° Fahrenheit) and that'll drop by just a couple of degrees this evening. Today's photo is of course an Easter Egg :-) Have a great Easter anyway, ciao :-)
Hello everyone. The Easter weekend is in full swing but I'm afraid to say the weather isn't joining in with the party so far. We started off with some heavy cloud cover this morning and over the last hour or so that has developed into showers. This little spell of damp weather is expected to continue through until tomorrow which could put one of the big events of the year, La Corsa dell'Angelo at risk. The event is due to take place tomorrow afternoon in Forio so we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed on that for the moment. The temperature right now at 2:15pm is 15° Celcius (59° Fahrenheit), and that shouldn't drop too much this evening. In the hope that it might keep the rain away tomorrow I've added an image of La Corsa dell'Angelo for today's photo. A domani :-)
Good afternoon everyone and hope you're all having a good Good Friday! It's another pleasant day today, sporadically cloudy but sunny for the most part. The temperature right now at 1:30pm is 18° Celcius (64° Fahrenheit) and just like yesterday the minimum for this evening will be around 11°C (52°F). Obviously it's a very important religious day in the calendar but also in terms of events as tonight sees the not-to-be-missed Actus Tragicus (Passion of Christ) in Forio. The action kicks off around 8pm tonight down by Forio port so make sure you get there early to grab the best spot as it'll be busy. Today's photo is the dangerously delicious La Pastiera, a type of cake that's traditionally made at Easter and which has formed a part of my last two meals...back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Buongiorno a tutti! Ok so maybe yesterday's story about the wine contained an element or two of imagination but it was April 1st after all...On to the second day of the month and leaving all fake stories aside, we've got another beautiful afternoon here. The temperature right now at 215pm is 18° Celcius (64° Fahrenheit), feeling warm in the sunshine. There's a bit of a breeze around but not enough to cause any trouble out at sea. The minimum temperature tonight will be 11°C (52°F) so if you're out and about you'll probably need a light jacket or cardigan. It's Good Friday tomorrow and one of the biggest events of the year, the Actus Tragicus (Passion of Christ) in Forio. Today's photo comes from the lovely Castello Aragonese in Ischia Ponte. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. Well there's only one place to start today's update and that's with the news of the incredible discovery of around 2 thousand barrels of wine which were found in a huge secret vault close to Chiaia Beach in Forio. Just along from the beach lies a small cove and one astounded explorer this morning found a hatch open which led to the vault. Upon entry the young man who's in Ischia on holiday this week was met with the astonishing sight of the barrels which we can only surmise were left there by pirates hundreds of years ago. Authorities spent this morning distributing the wine in bottles to anybody lucky enough to be close to the beach at the time. Spirits are obviously high in the area at the moment but we don't know if any free wine remains.....Ciao ;-)
Buongiorno everyone! I think it's safe to describe today as "glorious". We've got almost completely blue skies, only interrupted here and there by those very wispy, insignificant clouds that serve to add a little celestial decoration and no rain. The temperature right now at 1:45pm is just touching 19° Celcius (66° Fahrenheit) and feels lovely and warm in the sunshine. Tonight's minimum will be a perfectly acceptable 11°C (52°F) and the outlook for the rest of the week remains very positive. Today's photo comes from the annual Ipomea Flower Craft and Food Festival which takes places at Negombo Thermal Gardens in Lacco Ameno. We've just updated the Ischia Events Calendar so you can find dates of the year's main events in one place. A domani, ciao :-)
