Hi everyone. Sweltering is once again the order of the day as Ischia continues to sizzle under the July sun. The crickets continue to make themselves heard with their tropical-sound chatter and the scene is completed by the varying shades of blue provided by the sea and the sky. Right now at 6:15pm it's 29° Celsius (84° Fahrenheit) while the weather forecast provides very little in the way of entertainment, just row after row of red suns for the foreseeable future which is what we all want after all. Today's photo was taken this morning down by Forio port with its skyline dominated by the Torrione and the Chiesa di San Gaetano, two of the towns most recognisable icons. I'll be back with another update tomorrow so until then, kick back and enjoy the sunshine. Ciao :-)
Evening all. Guess what, it's hot! Yes the sweltering spell of weather continues with another feast of sunshine today. Even right now at 7:15pm it's still 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) with another very sticky, humid evening in store. Over the last few days a new arrival on the scene has been the crickets with their constant chatter that you almost don't notice because it's always there, one of the most obvious signs of summer time in Italy. Looking ahead there's no change expected to the current conditions for at least the next week so you can plan your time here without fear of any rain interruptions. Today's photo comes from Ischia Ponte which next week will be the scene for one of the busiest events of the year. La Festa di Sant'Anna which takes place on Tuesday. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. It's another hot, soporific day in Ischia and one that compels me to explain a little bit the afternoon break that takes place on the island each day. Roughly between 1pm and 4:30pm you'll find most businesses closed except for restaurants who take their breaks at other times. As an Englishman I used to find this break a little odd but after a while you slip into the same rhythm and perhaps start to understand it more. On days like this it's really difficult to work effectively when it's so hot, and you find yourself doing your best work first thing in the morning or later at night when it's cooler. Anyway, I'm now cool enough to tell you that right now at 5:15pm it's 28° Celsius (82° Fahrehneit) and we're in for more of the same tomorrow. Back with more then. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone and welcome back to Ischia at the start of another new week. As alluded to yesterday we've seen the weather gradually get back to the scorching heights it was hitting a week ago and today has seen the progression in that. Having just popped for a very brief perusal of the sky I can confirm there is not a single cloud nor even a single piece of cloud to be seen anywhere. All there is right now is blazing sun and with the time on the clock reading 6:15pm the temperature is 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit). Tomorrow promises to be a good 4°C hotter still so plenty of refreshing sea or swimming pool dips come highly recommended this week. Statistically this could be our busiest day of the year but keep your e-mails coming in, we're always happy to help. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. The weather is well and truly back on track in Ischia after a little blip over the last couple of days. Today we've had almost unbroken sunshine all day with the temperature gradually on the rise as well. Right now at 6:15pm it's 26° Celsius (79° Fahrenheit), sunny and with hardly a breath of wind to speak of. Anyone who's just arrived or is about to arrive on the island will take great delight at the weather forecast for the next 7 days, a complete row of sunshine with temperatures above 30°C every day, peaking at around 33°C on Tuesday. Today's photo was taken this afternoon just outside Chiesa del Soccorso in Forio where there's currently a Lavender Festival taking place with all sorts of lavender-related products on sale from market stalls. Ciao :-)
Buona Sera to one and all and welcome back to Ischia as we pass through our single-dip, mid-July weather recession which should hopefully be a very short-lived affair. Following on from yesterday's rain and storms we've had a so-so day today, warm and sunny at times but much cooler at others. Right now at 7:30pm it's 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit) and quite cloudy. It's been a day with extraordinarily high visibility, islands such as Santo Stefano and Ventotene have been easy to see for anybody on the west coast of Ischia while slightly more unusually it's been possible to see the tiny island of Zannone next to Ponza and some of the coastal towns on the mainland such as Gaeta. Tomorrow's weather looks good, sunny and warm with a big improvement again by Monday. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. So after about 3 weeks of almost uninterrupted sunshine and heat we've finally had something a little bit different today. As the forecasts suggested, the day started with some rough seas and then took a turn for the worse with heavy rain showers, thunder and lightning. All of this (apart from the thunder and lightning no doubt) was gratefully lapped up by the local plant life but not held in such high regard by anybody on their holidays. We've seen a huge drop in temperatures today as well and right now at 6:30pm we're all sitting here shivering at a mere 22° Celsius (72° Fahrenheit). It appears that the weather boiler will take a few more days to crank up to its previous levels but the improvement starts tomorrow and will continue until Monday. Ciao :-)
Good evening to you all you and welcome back to Ischia on a day where we've seen a little change in the weather. It's still been hot and sunny but not quite to the levels we've had of late and there's also been some wind around which has caused a few marine issues shall we say. Right now at 6pm it's mostly sunny and the temperature is 27° Celsius (81° Fahrenheit), around 3 or 4° C cooler than it was yesterday and enough to make for a more comfortable evening for those without air-conditioning (er, me actually). There is some build-up of cloud out at sea which may develop into something more sinister by tomorrow morning although the forecasts have altered and the predicted storm may not be as bad as first feared. We'll see tomorrow anyway. Ciao :-)
Good evening folks. Today's update comes a bit late in the day but it just wouldn't feel right to give it a miss altogether. It's been another sizzling, steamy day (not in an adult movie kind of way of course) where cold showers have been the order of the day (still not in an adult movie kind of way) in order to deal with the heat. Earlier today the temperature gauge was above 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) while right now at 9:15pm things have cooled down to a slightly more comfortable 28°C (82°F). I mentioned yesterday that we might see a little change in the weather on Friday and that remains the case, tomorrow is expected to be sunny all day but the day after could see cooler temperatures and perhaps some rain as well before improving again over the weekend. A domani. Ciao :-)
Buona sera everyone. The July heatwave continues as it has for every day of the month so far. If you happen to be in Ischia at the moment then you really need to be either in or next to the water and taking regular refreshing dips. If anything today feels even hotter than previous days and right now at 6:30pm it's 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit). Now having just paid a cursory glance at the weather forecasts there does appear to be some actual weather on the horizon for the first time in a while. Tomorrow is expected to be a replica of today but Thursday might see a slight drop in temperatures before a potential stormy day on Friday. Regular readers of this column will know it's usually pointless predicting more than 24 hours ahead though so let's see how it goes. Ciao :-)
