Buona sera ragazzi. It's another wonderful day in Ischia and as I write I have the view of the rippling sea ahead of me with the summer sound of crickets rhythmically chirping away in the background. Right now at 5:30pm it's 28° Celcius (82° Fahrenheit) and we're set for a perfect evening with a minimum temperature of about 23°C (73°F). The week ahead and indeed the rest of August should see very similar conditions to those of today with no rain predicted for at least the next 7 days. The potato did itself proud at last night's sagra in Forio and tonight it's the turn of the pizza in the village of Buonopane with plenty of wine and music around to complete the scene. Today's photo shows Maronti Beach in Barano with Capri in the distance and I'll be back again tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening all. The sun is on its way down after a mostly pleasant day in Ischia. I say mostly because there was a period of an hour or so where there was an unexpected and fairly potent storm which brought a gloomy darkness and heavy rain while it was here. Outside of that it's been very nice indeed and right now at 7:15pm it's 29° Celcius (84° Fahrenheit), sunny and not a cloud to be seen. Tonight will stay dry with a minimum of 23°C (73°F) and looking ahead it looks like much more of the same for the foreseeable future which might indicate an end to this unusual August blip. The sagra season continues tonight in Forio where it's the turn of the merry potato to take centre stage and today's photo comes once again from Ischia Ponte. I'll be back with more tomorrow, ciao :-)
Hi everyone. It's a gorgeous evening in Ischia and even now at 6:30pm with the sun on its way down it's still a lovely 29° Celcius (84° Fahrenheit) and just about the best time of day to go for a dip in the sea, avoiding the mid-afternoon crowds. The winds from the previous few days blew out overnight leaving a very light breeze meaning business as usual for boat rentals again. The minimum temperature this evening will be 23°C (73°F) while looking ahead to tomorrow there is the chance of a shower or too but it'll be mostly sunny. Tonight's summer sagra is in honour of the aubergine/eggplant (melanzana in Italian), in the village of Fiaiano in Barano. Speaking of food, today's image is a beautiful greengrocery in Ischia Ponte and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. Welcome back to Ischia on what has been a gorgeous day on the island. The temperatures are down significantly on last week but actually a lot more pleasant in the mid to high twenties rather than the stifling 30 plus that we had before. Right now at 7pm it's 26° Celcius (79° Fahrenheit) and sunny as it has been for most of the day. There was a bit of wind around this morning and although that has mostly passed, the sea is still a bit bumpy. Conditions out on the water should be better tomorrow but there might just be a few clouds around in the morning before brightening up in the afternoon. Tonight sees the second half of the "Sagra del Vino" in Panza at 8:30pm and today's photo comes from Maronti Beach. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Buona domenica everyone! Well we really have got a strange day of weather in Ischia today. Right now it's windy and cloudy with occasional spells of sunshine and before that we had some showers, strong at times on and off throughout the day. It's much much cooler than yesterday too with the temperature gauge at 6pm showing a mere 22° Celcius (72° Fahrehneit). Tomorrow and beyond look better but the spell of 30°C plus temperatures seems to be over for now. With the strong winds come rough seas which has made life difficult for anybody wishing to rent a boat today but there shouldn't be any problems from tomorrow. Speaking of boat rentals, one of the best sights as you tour round is Castello Aragonese, today's photo of the day. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening all, it's the 15th of August which in Italy means only one thing, the "Ferragosto" (comes from "Ferie" (holiday) and "Agosto" (August) national holiday which among other things makes Ischia very busy with anybody who can making their way over here at least for the weekend but in many cases for the whole month. There were fears that the weather would ruin the weekend but as yet it's been largely nice, yes there were a few clouds around this morning but right now at 6:15pm it's sunny and 28° Celcius (82° Fahrenheit). There are lots of sagras (fairs/fetes) coming up including the "Sagra del Vino" in Panza tomorrow night and we'll keep you up to date with all of those as they happen. Today's photo shows Punta San Pancrazio and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona sera a tutti! Wherever you may be the weekend has just about arrived so you can down tools and read today's Ischia weather update without feeling guilty or getting into trouble. It's hot as you would expect and right now at 4:30pm it's 31° Celcius (88° Fahrenheit), mainly sunny although it has just clouded over momentarily. Things are about to take an unusual turn though with rain expected tomorrow and a storm on Sunday, perfect conditions for the busiest two days of the year! That storm looks like it'll wipe away the searing heat that we've had recently, leaving a much more comfortable maximum of about 28°C (82°F) for the following week. Today's photo comes from the bay of Citara in Forio and I'll be back with more tomorrow. Buon weekend! Ciao :-)
Afternoon all! Normal Ischia August service has resumed with another hot and sticky day as we near the epicentre of the annual holiday cycle that is 15th August, otherwise known as Ferragosto. We've had lots of sunshine so far today and right now at 5:45pm it's 30° Celcius (86° Fahrenheit) while tonight will be quite a bit warmer than last night with a minimum of 27°C (81°F) expected. Tomorrow looks like it'll be a replica of today but Saturday and Sunday are not shaping up too well at the moment. In fact the 4 day period from Saturday through to Tuesday next week will see a drop in temperatures with some rain and storms thrown into the mix for Sunday. Today's photo comes from the village of Sant'Angelo and I'll be back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Ciao ragazzi! The pre-Ferragosto week continues with this period of topsy-turvy weather. Yesterday we had a bit of everything while today although an improvement is still a bit unsettled. This morning it was sunny but windy and now that the wind has gone so has the sun. It's still hot though, right now at 4pm it's 32° Celcius (90° Fahrehneit) and we should see similar conditions for the next couple of days with maybe a slight dip at the weekend. I will remind anyone with a passing interest in the music of Queen to get down to Testaccio this evening for what is a surprisingly good tribute band along with the omnipresent food and wine. Today's photo is of the tiny island next to Ischia called Vivara, a nature reserve that you can only visit on one day each year. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. We've already had a bit of every season combined today. Early on this morning Ischia was whipped by vicious storms carrying bucketfuls of rain with a vocal chorus of thunder and lightning to complete the soundtrack. This caused disruption to travel plans this morning but things have changed somewhat and right now at 4pm it's a lovely 27° Celcius (81° Fahrenheit), sunny but with some grey clouds around and a stiff breeze too. Things look much brighter for the week ahead though and that's good news for the sagras (like village fetes) that take place tonight and tomorrow night in the village of Testaccio (Barano). Tonight's is the "Sagra del Pesce" and tomorrow will see the excellent cover band "Queen of Bulsara" in the village square. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
