Evening everyone. We've had another beautiful day in Ischia with sunshine from dawn to dusk. We're now into night time and in terms of the weather things are all very calm with hardly a breath of wind and being a fairly clear evening there's a little sprinkling of stars up there in the sky. Right now at 5:55pm it's 12° Celcius (53° Fahrenheit) and feeling a little bit chilly as it's the lowest temperature we've had for a good while. The crisp, bright, autumnal conditions look set to continue tomorrow and Saturday before some cloud moves in on Sunday. Today's photo comes from a very colourful fruit and vegetable stand in the village of Panza. Apart from that, keep an eye out for our Christmas & New Year Calendar which we'll publish shortly. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. Night time has settled over Ischia on what has been a fairly mild day of weather. Some unexpected overnight rain followed by long cloudy spells in the morning left the island feeling somewhat damp until the sun came out around midday to dry things out a bit. The temperature right now at 6:45pm is 13° Celcius (55° Fahrenheit) and although it is currently dry, there are some light showers forecast for this evening. There could also be some more overnight rain before a mostly bright day tomorrow. Friday and Saturday are also shaping up nicely with lots of sunshine expected. Today's photo really shows the autumnal feeling that prevails at the moment with trees rapidly shedding their leaves as we move towards winter. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. It's getting towards the end of what's been an absolutely gorgeous day in Ischia, lots of lovely warm winter sunshine and not a cloud to be seen. Right now at 3:45pm it's 17° Celcius (62° Fahrenheit) and looking ahead it looks like a lot more of the same for at least the next seven days. As mentioned yesterday, today is a national holiday in Italy so some of the shops are closed in Ischia but the town centres are still quite busy with many visitors here for the Christmas period and therefore lots of restaurants nice and full this lunchtime. With the sunny weather there were even some people down on Citara Beach this morning. Today's photo comes from a festive-looking Chiesa di San Gaetano in Forio and I'll be back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. We're in the twilight hours here in Ischia but for the most part it's been a bright, sunny day with a few cloudy spells. Right now at 5pm it's a healthy 14° Celcius (57° Fahrenheit) and the outlook for the next week is for a continuation of the dry spell with the winds also expected to remain under control. Tomorrow is an important day throughout Italy and a national holiday too. Known colloquially as "Immacolata" or "The Feast of the Immaculate Conception" to give it its full English name, it's the day when you're officially supposed to start putting your festive decorations up but I can see lots of tradition-breakers all around the island who've made an early dash for it! Today's photo comes from the lighthouse in Ischia Porto. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. It's just starting to get dark at the end of what's been a bright, crisp and autumnal-feeling afternoon in Ischia. The 6th December is a special day in the religious calendar when Saint Nicholas (San Nicola) is revered. The day is celebrated in different ways up and down Italy but in Ischia there's a lovely ceremony that takes place on one of the island's oldest churches, the Chiesa di San Nicola on Mount Epomeo. It's one of the few days of the year that the church is open to the public and after a mass, the statue of San Nicola is taken to the top of the mountain, accompanied by hymns, before being returned to its position in the church. There was a great crowd to witness it all as can be seen in today's photo. As for the weather, right now at 5pm it's dry and 14°C (58°F). Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. We've almost arrived at the weekend and I thought it would be a good time for a quick update on all things Ischia. Weather-wise it's a very calm day, mainly cloudy with some sunny spells and right now at 3:45pm it's 16° Celcius (61° Fahrenheit). Things should stay dry for the next week or so with temperatures similar to today. It was great to see Ischia get a mention on British TV last night, appearing on Alex Polizzi's Italian Islands which was screened on Channel 5. Among the places she visited were La Mortella Gardens which is the subject of today's photo. I'd also like to mention a new project of ours called the Ischia Book Exchange which we're very excited about so please let us know if you have any books spare! Back again tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Good afternoon/early evening everyone. We somehow seemed to have moved into December in the blink of an eye meaning it's now time to dust off those advent calendars or, economic-crisis-allowing, buy a brand new one (definitely preferable if it's one of those that has chocolates behind each door!). Anyway here in Ischia we've had a mixture of weather over the last few days, feeling quite cold at times but right at the moment it's not too bad at all, 16° Celcius (61° Fahrenheit) at 5:45pm. For the next week or so things should stay dry and there's not much wind around either making conditions at sea nice and calm. Today's photo comes from just a few hours ago, the pink sky left in the wake of the setting sun over the bay of Citara in Forio. Back with more soon. Ciao :-)
