Buona sera everyone. The sun has just set over Ischia as we move gently into Sunday night. Down in one of the hotels nearby I can here a crooner loosening his vocal chords no doubt in preparation for a party of some kind. Over the past couple of days the weather has kept to a certain type, mostly cloudy with the odd outbreak of sunshine but generally speaking, still feeling warm with maximum temperatures hovering around 27° Celsius (81° Fahrenheit). Looking ahead at the next week we should see a continuation of those temperatures but with sunshine rather than cloud dominating. Today's photo shows one of Forio's jewels, the Greek Theatre at La Mortella Gardens where throughout the summer you can enjoy open-air performances with a stunning backdrop. Ciao :-)
Evening all. I'm going to cheat again tonight and fast forward to tomorrow as we're almost there anyway. We've had a bit of an up and down day Thursday with nice, sunny conditions this morning before the clouds rolled in and brought some light showers with them. Things have cleared up again somewhat and a result of that was the spectacular sunset that you can see in today's photo. No camera tricks or special effects involved either, we just get some amazing spectacles here in the evenings with an array of colours, tonight being mainly orange in colour as you looked towards Ventotene. Friday and Saturday are a bit difficult to predict at the moment but we'll hope for the best and temperatures should be up around 26° Celsius (79° Fahrenheit). Back on Saturday. Ciao :-)
Buona sera everyone. It's been a bit of a "brutta giornata" in terms of the weather today as was expected. Things didn't start off too bad this morning and it looked at one stage as if the forecasters had got it wrong with some sunshine interspersed with clouds until mid-afternoon. Since then though it's been raining solidly and that rain is set for the rest of the evening. It feels colder right now than it's felt for the last few months with the thermometer showing 20°C (68° Fahrenheit) at 7:15pm. Despair not though! Things are looking much more positive for tomorrow with plenty of sunshine expected and temperatures back up around the mid-twenties. In order to help bring the sun back I've got for a nice, bright shot of Forio Port for today's photo so let's hope it works! Ciao :-)
Evening folks. We've had rather a strange day of weather in Ischia today. At times it's felt hot but a feeling that something disagreeable is on the way is hard to ignore. Last night we had a heavy downpour, the first we've had for a long time and the kind that sends your TV channels into a panic before leaving you with a blank screen. This morning the skies were clear but the sea rough and it's gradually got rougher still as the day's worn on. Right now at 7:15pm it's down to 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit) and there's a large build up of cloud, like an invading army on the eve of battle moving into position, ready to unleash their forces the next day which in our case will come in the form of rain for most of tomorrow. By Thursday it should be sunny again though. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone and for the first time in quite a while we've got a distinct lack of sunshine. The predictions for unsettled weather this week seem to be coming true with a thick covering of cloud enveloping the island today and the threat of rain this evening. It's still feeling quite warm though and right now at 5:15pm it's 26° Celsius (79° Fahrenheit). Tomorrow looks like it'll be sunny but a little windy while the rest of the week promises a mixture of rain and shine. For today's photo I've chosen the port of Casamicciola. This is one of the three ports on the island that you can sail from Naples to. It has both a ferry and hydrofoil port, also providing crossings to other locations in the region including the port of Pozzuoli and the islands of Procida, Ventotene and Ponza. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. Seeing as today's blog is so late in the day I'm going to break with tradition and jump straight into Sunday (or is that cheating?). Well today was really hot again, up around 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit) at times and it's still feeling quite humid now at 9:30pm. But with today almost now considered as yesterday let's look ahead to tomorrow (that actually makes sense to me but I've had a lot of coffee today). We're heading for a very similar day to today, plenty of sunshine and a few light clouds with a top temperature of 27°C (81°F). For today's photo I'll leave you with a shot of the island's travel hub, Ischia Porto. This bustling area is a hive of activity with ferries, hydrofoils, buses and taxis all vying for position throughout the day. I'll be be back on Monday. Ciao :-)
Hi everyone. You catch me (or maybe it's the other way round) just as the sun is going down in spectacular style here on the west coast of the island, creating a glow of deep reds and effervescent pinks. It's been a day free of cloud-related blemishes with the sun burning down to create a maximum temperature of 30°C (86° Fahrenheit) and even right now at 7:30pm it's 27°C (81°F) and feeling sticky. Throughout August you'd find Citara Beach a magnet for boats on a Friday night as they positioned themselves for the weekend but looking outside now it's noticeable that there are precisely zero boats in the bay, really highlighting how much quieter things are now that we're into September. I'll leave you for now with a shot of the lovely Chiaia Beach in Forio and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. So into September we go and it's strange how the island takes on a quite different aspect from the previous month. To all intents and purposes things like the weather are very similar but the change really comes with the people who are visiting. During August by far the greatest percentage of visitors come from Italy and most of those from the Campania region but as soon as you get into September there are much more international visitors and you can feel that difference straight away when sitting in a bar or doing a bit of people-watching. Weather-wise it's been pretty good, there were a few cloud around this morning but right now the sun's out and it's blue skies all the way. The current temperature at 5:30pm is 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit). Ciao :-)
Hello everyone. Right now at 6:30pm it's 27° Celsius (81° Fahrenheit) and sunny in Ischia. It wasn't like that earlier though and in fact we had our first drops of rain in what feels like a very long time this morning. The prognosis for tomorrow looks very healthy though, reflecting conditions as they are now rather than how they were this morning. Today's photo shows one of the little pearls of Ischia, the restaurant that lies in the bay known as La Scarrupata. The restaurant can only be reached by sea which makes it ideal for people who have hired a boat for the day. You simply drop anchor in the bay, wave and a man comes to collect you in a wooden boat. The bay itself is gifted with some of the clearest water around the island and making it a great little pit stop. Ciao :-)
Evening all. The sun is setting on another idyllic day in Ischia. It's been beautifully hot again and the only clouds in the sky have been those ones that aren't even strong enough to cause momentary lapses in the sunshine. The top temperature earlier was 28° Celsius (82° Fahrehneit) and looking ahead to tomorrow there's a suggestion of some slightly more robust cloud in the morning before giving way to a sunnier afternoon. For today's photo I've chosen one of my favourite subjects, the wonderful Fiat 500. You see so many on this island where the roads are narrow and perfectly suited to small cars but almost without fail, the owners of these icons of Italian life take such great care of them. I love this little red number, equipped with picnic hamper on the back. Ciao :-)
