Evening folks. Your working week blues are nearly over and now you can look forward to another colour over the weekend (is there an opposite colour to blues to signify a good mood?). The metronomical weather has continued today and as you know that means sunshine and heat. Right now at 6:15pm it's 28° Celsius (82° Fahrehneit) and a cursory glance at the weather forecast shows nothing untoward on the horizon. Today's photo shows the "Belvedere di Zaro", where you can enjoy one of the best views on the island, across to Chiesa del Soccorso in the distance and with Chiaia and San Francesco beaches in the foreground. The word "Belvedere" more or less means "nice view" but we're yet to come up with a suitable equivalent in English for some reason. Ciao :-)
Buona sera ragazzi. Things really are getting very lively over here on the East Wing at Ischia Review headquarters (in truth there's only one wing and no other building but one can dream). It's been so busy that I've hardly been able to notice the weather but in the fleeting moments when my senses were alerted to the conditions it was without fail, hot and unless I'm much mistaken, sunny. I did manage to notice a couple of fighter jets doing some scary looking practice manoeuvres above the island earlier which was quite attention grabbing but apart from that it's all been business as usual. Right now at 8pm it's 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit), still hot and feeling tropical with the crickets chirping away. We're in for another scorching day tomorrow as well so until then, ciao :-)
Evening everyone. We're getting towards the end of another sun-kissed day in Ischia with a beautifully warm, star-filled evening to follow. We've had unbroken sunshine all day today along with a very welcome breeze that's just been taking the edge off the heat. Right now at 7pm it's 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit) and the sun will be setting in just over an hour. Metaphorically speaking we're in a phase of the relative calm before the storm, August is by far the busiest month of the year on the island but for this week at least there's still a surprising amount of space on the beaches. Looking ahead, there's really not much to say about the weather for the next 7 days, just boring old hot and sunny days with temperatures above 30°C. Back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. We're once again basking in the sunshine on what is a devilishly hot day in Ischia. This of course is one of the most important days on the calendar for the island with its famous Festa di Sant'Anna spectacle due to take place around Castello Aragonese in Ischia Ponte tonight. Expect to see hundreds of boats crowding around the castle and thousands of visitors on foot, seeking the best vantage points to enjoy the show. If you happen to be on the island at the moment this is really something not to be missed, it's a hugely popular event with a spectacular firework display at the end. It's going to be a lovely, warm evening , right now at 5:30pm it's 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit) and tomorrow is set up very nicely as well for more of the same. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening all. The weather has been somewhat turbulent over the last few days but I think we're now heading for a more settled spell. Things were going very well today until late afternoon with plenty of sunshine and warmth but out of the blue (literally), came a sudden wave of dark cloud that brought several showers with it and hung around for a couple of hours like an unwanted guest at a party before finally taking the hint and clearing off. Right now it's cooler than it's been of late, 26° Celsius (79° Fahrenheit), but the sun is back out and about to set over Forio, leaving us with some cleaner, fresher air. Tomorrow the temperature will be cranking back up to its usual level so expect another beautiful, balmy evening for La Festa di Sant'Anna in Ischia Ponte. Ciao :-)
Good evening everyone. Well it's not been the day we expected today in terms of the weather. The forecasts suggested a mainly sunny day with a few occasional clouds but it's been anything but that. This morning started grey and was gradually followed by light showers which have continued on and off all day. Right now at 6pm it's 26° Celsius (79° Fahrenheit) and although the crickets are doing their best to make it feel like summer, the sun is still nowhere to be seen. This malaise will last for the rest of this evening with further showers expected and tomorrow morning we might find something a little more malevolent before things get back to normal around 10 or 11. After that we should be in for a very nice week, nicely timed for the Festa di Sant'Anna on Tuesday. Ciao :-)
Ciao ragazzi. It's a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Ischia which will come as a surprise to absolutely nobody. Looking down on to the bay of Citara there's an armada of yachts, dinghies and speedboats taking advantage of the weekend weather and who can blame them. Right now at 3:30pm it's 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) and we're in for another very hot evening as well. Looking at the forecast for the next seven days we should see another nice day tomorrow but perhaps with a little bit of cloud cover and come Monday there's the threat of rain and a drop in temperature. That does just appear to be a short-lived blip though so we'll wait and see on that. Today's photo comes from the little known Inglesi Beach in Ischia Porto, slightly hidden but worth a visit. Ciao :-)
Evening all. The weekend is upon us and it's shaping up to be both busy and hot as we approach the real peak time of the year. The weather proceedings have once again been dominated by the sun today which has shined incessantly. You know it's really hot when you're on a scooter and even the breeze doesn't cool you down which is how it's been today. Right now at 6:30pm it's 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) and we're in for another beautiful, balmy, star-filled evening. Tomorrow will see a similar story as today and Sunday is looking good too. Potato fans (I know there must be many of you!) will be thrilled to hear there's a festival in honour of your favourite vegetable in Casamiccciola on Sunday, expect music, merriment and of course, lots of potatoes. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Hi everyone. Sweltering is once again the order of the day as Ischia continues to sizzle under the July sun. The crickets continue to make themselves heard with their tropical-sound chatter and the scene is completed by the varying shades of blue provided by the sea and the sky. Right now at 6:15pm it's 29° Celsius (84° Fahrenheit) while the weather forecast provides very little in the way of entertainment, just row after row of red suns for the foreseeable future which is what we all want after all. Today's photo was taken this morning down by Forio port with its skyline dominated by the Torrione and the Chiesa di San Gaetano, two of the towns most recognisable icons. I'll be back with another update tomorrow so until then, kick back and enjoy the sunshine. Ciao :-)
Evening all. Guess what, it's hot! Yes the sweltering spell of weather continues with another feast of sunshine today. Even right now at 7:15pm it's still 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) with another very sticky, humid evening in store. Over the last few days a new arrival on the scene has been the crickets with their constant chatter that you almost don't notice because it's always there, one of the most obvious signs of summer time in Italy. Looking ahead there's no change expected to the current conditions for at least the next week so you can plan your time here without fear of any rain interruptions. Today's photo comes from Ischia Ponte which next week will be the scene for one of the busiest events of the year. La Festa di Sant'Anna which takes place on Tuesday. Ciao :-)
