Good morning everyone. It's another sumptuous day in Ischia. Sitting in my vantage point in Forio I'm happy to report the sea is once again a picture of calm and I'm met with a vista of a beautiful yacht entering stage left just as I type. Last night I was lucky enough to be in Sant'Angelo for the Raiz concert which took place in the village square. The music was really wonderful, a haunting mix of Neapolitan and Arabic styles so I think I'll have to go and download one of the albums today. This morning sees another important event on the island - the annual Festa della Ginestra. This takes place in the village of Buonopane where people gather to start a Sunday hike through the picturesque hills there. Starting at 10:45am the group then proceeds into the forest where they eventually stop for refreshments and entertainment. One of the showpieces of the day is the performance of the traditional Ischitan dance know as the "'ndrezzata" where a group of guys seemingly attack each other with sticks but don't worry, it's all beautifully choreographed and nobody gets hurt, well not much anyway. The temperature today will be hitting 26°C (79°F) so if you're on the island right now, sit back, relax and enjoy the sunshine. If you're not here yet then get yourself here soon! I'll be back with another update in the next few days. Ciao :-)

Afternoon folks. Although it's not officially summer yet all the tell-tale signs are there. Being a bank holiday weekend (La Festa della Repubblica) things are busier than usual and add in the gorgeous sunshine it makes for quite a cocktail. Looking out to sea right now I can see the weekend boats gathering in the corner of Citara Beach close to Poseidon Thermal Gardens in Forio. It's that time of day where the sea glistens giving the effect of thousands of little diamonds dancing around on the lightest of waves. There'll surely be dancing on the island this evening too, most notably down in Sant'Angelo (the subject of today's photo) where an exciting event is taking place. Some of you may have seen the film "Passione" by American actor John Turturro which is a documentary about the different styles of Neapolitan music and dance. One of the musicians featured in the film is known as Raiz and you can see his style from this clip of the film. He'll be performing a FREE concert in Sant'Angelo tonight which is sure to be a special occasion. If you're unfamiliar with Raiz and his style then make sure you come along tonight because I can guarantee you won't be disappointed. His music contains influences of Reggae, Arabic and traditional Neapolitan sounds which you'll be able to enjoy under the balmy skies of Sant'Angelo this evening. The concert starts at 21:30 so if you're planning on coming down I'd recommend arriving as early as possible to get the best vantage point. Yours truly will also be in attendance so I hope to see a few of you down there too. The temperature at the moment is a lovely 23°C (73°F) and it'll only drop by a few degrees tonight so nice and warm still. Tomorrow seems to be getting hotter still and we're in for a nice, settled spell now. Back soon. Ciao :-)
