Barano is one the six "comunes" (similar to a borough) of Ischia and covers 12 square kilometres of the south western section of the island, with Serrara Fontana to the west and Ischia Porto & Ischia Ponte to the east.
Without question the most attractive destination for visitors to Barano is Maronti Beach with its golden sand and turqiouse water. Maronti is the largest beach on the island and something of a resort in its own right with a number of bars, restaurants and extensive accommodation options. |

Barano Village
The village of Barano is not to be confused with the comune (or borough) of the same name.
The comune consists of a number of villages such as Testaccio, Piedimonte, Fiaiano, Buonopane and Barano itself. Although fairly small, the village centre does boast two churches, the Chiesa di San Rocco and the Chiesa di San Sebastiano Martire.
Just outside the San Sebastiano church you can usually find ceramic products for sale similar to those in the photo above.
There's a bar called Ferrari 2000 that sells snacks and drinks, while hidden away in the road to the right of San Rocco is a small pizzeria called Pizzeria La Rosa.
Barano lies in the southern half of Ischia, sandwiched in between the neighbouring villages of Buonopane to its west and Piedimonte to its east. From the main road just before and just after the village centre you can enjoy some spectacular views across to Capri and the Italian mainland.
