Situated along the western coast of Ischia, Forio is the island's second largest town. It covers an area of roughly 13 square kilometres and has a population of around 12,000. The comune of Forio also includes the "frazione" (smaller town/village) of Panza.
Forio is characterised by its picturesque town centre with its shops, cinema, restaurants, bars and cafes. It's also home to the church, Chiesa del Soccorso which is one of the prettiest sights in Ischia, whilst in the centre of Forio you will find the Torrione Museum, an ancient look-out tower that was built to keep enemy forces at bay. |

The port of Forio allows travellers to take the hydrofoil to Naples on the mainland which also makes a stop at Ischia Porto.
Citara beach is one of the most alluring in Ischia and is just a short taxi journey or a pleasant 30 minute walk overlooking the sea from Forio town centre and is also home to Poseidon Thermal Gardens, one of Ischia's major thermal parks. There are also a further three beaches in Forio, Cava dell'Isola, Chiaia and San Francesco which are all within walking distance of the town centre.
The gardens of La Mortella and Ravino are also based in Forio and offer a relaxing day out with their beautiful flora and fauna and stunning views from above Forio.
In the small town of Panza in Forio, you will also find Sorgeto Bay which is famous for its natural hot thermal pools.
