From the summer of 2015 it's been possible to take the underground Metro system from Naples Central Station (Napoli Stazione Centrale) to Naples Beverello Port from where you can take the hydrofoil across to Ischia. This has been a very welcome addition to the city's transport system, particularly for those people on their way to not just Ischia but also Capri and Sorrento.
On arrival at Stazione Centrale, go to any of the newsagents where you can buy the Metro tickets ("Un biglietto" for one ticket "due biglietti" for two tickets") and then from the main terminal you can take the staircase down, following the signs to "Garibaldi" and the Metro system. Alternatively you can go outside of the main building and cross the road towards the large covered structure which you can see in the second of our photos above. From there, take the escalators down towards the underground area (photos 3, 4 and 5).
Walk to the end of this area and then to the left where you will find automatic ticket barriers. Once through the barriers take the escalators down to the bottom level (photo 6), and then turn either left or right for the trains that go in the direction of Piscinola. Stay on the train until Municipio which is just a few stops from Garibaldi.
From Municipio, take the escalators up all the way to the ticket office and then take the left exit which is signposted for "Porto" (photo 7). Climb the stairs which brings you out to the exit shown in photo 8 and follow the path with the flower pots in photo 9 (please note, at the time of writing and at which the photos were taken, the square was still under construction with work due to be completed soon so please be aware that some structures may look or feel temporary). We then recommend walking to the top of the square and then turning left towards the castle. From the castle follow the (again temporary) path down towards the sea and then when you reach the bottom, cross the road and you'll have arrived at Beverello Port with the ticket offices directly ahead of you.
Ticket Prices:
Single Journey - €1
90 Minute Ticket (multiple journeys allowed within that time) - €1.50
