SERRARA FONTANA
Latest page update: 14 December 2024
Serrara Fontana is situated in the southern part of Ischia between Forio to the west and Barano to the east, and is the highest town above sea-level on the island. The town is divided into the following villages - Serrara, Fontana, Sant'Angelo, Succhivo, Ciglio, Calimera and Noia.
With a mixture of hilltop towns, farmland, pretty churches and spectacular views across the sea, Serrara Fontana is perhaps the most diverse of Ischia's six main towns. From Serrara Fontana you can find a path that leads to the summit of Mount Epomeo but be warned, it's not for the faint-heated or the unfit. |
The views from the top however, cannot be beaten and if you can manage it, it's a highly rewarding experience.
Perhaps the jewel of Serrara Fontana is Sant'Angelo which unlike the other villages in Serrara Fontana, is a fishing village on the sea. The picturesque town is one of the prettiest sights in Ischia. The town is split in to two small parts, one on the mainland and one a giant rock in the sea, joined together by a small strip of beach.
