LA FESTA DELLA GINESTRA
For all lovers of trekking trails, open air activities and the natural beauty of Ischia, this is an event that you cannot miss. Every year, on the first Sunday of June, La Festa della Ginestra (The Gorse Festival), a celebration dedicated to the beautiful, wild and bright yellow flower that grows everywhere in Ischia, and that is typical of volcanic areas, is celebrated in Barano on Ischia’s south east coast.
The traditional trekking festival starts from the main square of the village of Buonopane (to get to Buonopane from Ischia Porto you can get the CD bus or from Forio the CS bus) at 10.45 and ends after a walk in the mountains of about two hours on the plain of Buceto. There, the true feast begins with a picnic of typical Ischian food (bruschetta with tomatoes, barbecued meat, salad and the traditional doughnuts called “zeppole”) and large quantities of local wine, ending with the traditional dance “la N’drezzata”.
If you prefer you can simply take your own food with you and just join the group for the walk. Otherwise the price for the picnic menu is €15 per person.
Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended as the trail might be difficult in some places.
