Aside from the main towns on the island, the villages of Ischia provide their own interest. There are six "comune" (similar to a borough) on the island - Ischia, Forio, Casamicciola Terme, Lacco Ameno, Serrara Fontana and Barano. Each comune (singular) then has a number of smaller villages or hamlets known as "frazione".
We start with the comune of "Ischia" which we've put into inverted commas to denote that we're talking about the comune rather than the name of the island itself. "Ischia" is in fact the main town otherwise known as "Ischia Porto". In some cases the villages listed may not be an official frazione but are nonetheless important within the fabric of the island's structure. |
