Ponza is an island in the Tyrhennian Sea that can be seen from Ischia on a clear day. The island measures around 5.5 miles in length and 1.5 miles in width and has a population of around 3,000.
The island does have several beaches although the majority of the coastline is rocky.
Like Ischia, Ponza has a legacy within the movies as it was used to film some scenes in the Wes Anderson movie, The Life Aquatic starring Bill Murray, ironically a parody of the work of Jacques Cousteau who had filmed some of his documentaries in the general area. The scenes in the Life Aquatic were those of the fictional island known as "Port-au-Patois".
