LA COLOMBAIA MUSEUM
La Colombaia Museum is closed until further notice.
Latest page update: 2 December 2024
In a small wooded area of Forio known as Zaro, stands La Colombaia, the former summer residence of the Italian film director, Luchino Visconti. Among his most notable and memorable films were Rocco and his Brothers (1960), starring Alain Delon, The Leopard (Il Gattopardo) made in 1963 and starring Burt Lancaster, and his adaptation of Thomas Mann's nove, Death in Venice starring Dirk Bogarde in 1971.
Visconti died in 1976, and in 2001, on the 25th anniversary of his death, it was decided that the house should become a museum devoted to his art, with costumes, furniture and photos showing his work and showcasing his time spent at the villa. |
