The 18th century palace at Caserta is a UNESCO World Heritage site which was originally used by the Bourbon kings of Naples.
Described as "the swan song of the delicate art of the Baroque" in 1997 when it was given it's UNESCO status, the palace remains one of Southern Italy's most visited attractions. Caserta itself is a city with a population of over 70,000 and the capital of the eponymous province. If visiting Caserta then a trip to the ruins of the nearby Campano Amphitheatre is highly recommended. |
