LA CORSA DELL'ANGELO
LA CORSA DELL'ANGELO
Just two days after the heartfelt and dramatic "Actus Tragicus" or "Passion of Christ" which is acted out on the streets of Forio, the joyful occasion of La Corsa dell'Angelo marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ and his reunification with his mother, The Virgin Mary.
The event takes place every Easter Sunday in Forio and involves the townsfolk carrying statues of Jesus Christ, The Virgin Mary, The Golden Angel and Saint John through the main street in Forio.
The statue-bearers carry the effigies on rails to perform a series of symbolic meetings between the four characters, with the climax coming when Jesus meet his mother.
A similar ceremony takes place on the same day in the town of Lacco Ameno.
