This is one of my favourite walking routes in Ischia and covers some delightful scenery including breathtaking panoramas of Maronti and Le Fumarole Beaches and across the sea to Capri in the distance. Along the way you'll pass by lots of pretty houses with their flowers proudly on display and if you're tired at the end of it you can even return by water.
Starting at the archway that marks the entrance to the village of Sant'Angelo, take a left turn up the hill where the signs point to Le Fumarole Beach. You immediately enter a small square and then walk to your right to some steps that lead up a hill. Follow this route and you will soon see Le Fumarole Beach down to your right. Carry on along this path and take the right hand path that leads down towards Aphrodite Thermal Gardens. At the bottom of the hill is Le Fumarole Beach where you could stop for a rest or refreshment, but at this point you will only have been walking for around 15-20 minutes or so.
To continue along to Maronti Beach ignore the right hand turn to Le Fumarole Beach and instead carry on up the steep hill in front of you. This is the toughest part of the walk and you'll probably need a breather when you reach the top. From that point onwards you carry on along the cliff-tops and follow the path as it winds down towards Maronti Beach.
Once you get to the beach you can either turn round and walk back in the same direction which will take you around 45 minutes back to the centre of Sant'Angelo, or alternatively find one of the water taxi jetties on the beach and take a nice relaxing cruise by sea for €3 per person and reach Sant'Angelo in around 5-10 minutes.
