Semmarezio is a group of buildings clustered around the Piazza dei Martiri (Martyr's Square in English) which marks the junction between Marina Corricella, Terra Murata and Marina Grande.
The square and the houses around it date back to the 16th century with the square named after a gruesome incident where 16 citizens of Procida were hanged after declaring their allegiance to the Neapolitan Republic. At the centre of the square lies the statue in memory of Antonio Scialoja who was once a prominent politician on the island. Also impossible to miss is the Santuario di Santa Maria delle Grazie church with its beautiful bright yellow façade and bell tower while the area is completed by a viewing area which looks down on to Marina Corricella and a bar restaurant. |

To reach this area from Marina Grande, locate the Santa Maria della Pietà/Chiesa dei Marinai church in Marina Grande and then follow the narrow road that heads inland before taking a left hand turn up the hill. From the port to Semmarezio should take no more than 10 minutes on foot.
