Its busy port connects it to Palermo and Messina on the island of Sicily, Positano & Amalfi on the Amalfi Coast and the islands of Ischia and Capri. |

By road from Salerno you can travel south towards Calabria and eventually Sicily along the main A3 motorway, or north towards Naples and Rome. Salerno also sits at the eastern end of the famous Amalfi Coast Road which attracts millions of visitors every year, tempted by its precipitous corners with their stunning scenery. The route along the Amalfi Coast Road from Salerno to Sorrento takes a couple of hours or so and also opens up some interesting possibilities for anybody wishing to incorporate Ischia as part of their travel plans.
From Wednesday 16th June until Wednesday 15th September 2021 there are daily crossings between Salerno and Ischia provided by Alilauro. Leaving Salerno at 8am, the passenger only (no cars or vehicles) hydrofoils arrive just under 3 hours later in Ischia Porto. The same boat then leaves Ischia Porto at 4:20pm, arriving back in Salerno at 8:20pm. The price for an adult single fare is €27.50 while for children aged from 2 - 11 years old the price is €15 and babies below the age of 2 travel for free.
