The Madonna di Zaro is a sanctuary on the site where miracles are said to have occurred. The story surrounds an appearance of the Virgin Mary on the 8th October 1994 and further appearances after that date where it is said that messages of peace were left.
You can reach the Madonna di Zaro on foot from Lacco Ameno or by car from Forio. From Lacco Ameno walk away from the town centre, towards San Montano Beach. Instead of then going down to the beach, turn left up the hill towards the woods of Zaro at which point you will pick up signs towards the sanctuary. To visit the Madonna di Zaro by car or scooter, follow the main SS270 road away from Lacco Ameno and towards Forio. At a certain point you reach a straight stretch of road that climbs up a hill. At the top, the road turns sharply left but you need to take the right hand turn, passing La Mortella Gardens along the way. Continue along this road as it eventually enters the woods and you can drive all the way along what eventually becomes a track. You will first reach La Colombaia Museum on your left but continue along a bit further until you reach the sanctuary's car park.
