The Chiesa del Purgatorio to give it its shorter name was originally built in the seventeenth century before suffering the same fate as so many of the churches in Casamicciola, being almost completely destroyed by the earthquake in 1883. The church was later reconstructed and is still in use today.
You can reach the church by the number 3 bus from either Ischia Porto or Forio, getting off at the Piazza Maio stop in the upper section of Casamicciola. From Piazza Maio, walk down the road next to Pizzeria Catarì and after a few minutes you will see the church on the right hand side of the road.
