Covid Test in Ischia

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic there is a requirement for citizens of certain countries to take a Covid Test in Ischia before they return home on a flight. The tests are available from most towns around the island with a list of recommended suppliers further down the page.
Most medical centres offer a choice between PCR Tests and Rapid Antigen Tests. The PCR Tests are more expensive, costing €70-€80 and are valid for 72 hours, whereas the Rapid Antigen Tests cost €30-35 and are valid for a maximum of 48 hours. Before deciding which test is the right one to take, it's worth pausing for a moment to understand the regulations which can be quite confusing.

The American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in an update on 15 December 2021, stated that before boarding a flight to the US, each passenger must be able to provide a negative Covid test result to the airline. The test must have been taken no earlier than the day before the flight home.
Either a rapid antigen or a PCR test is valid for this purpose.
Alternatively, if a passenger has recovered from Covid in the 90 days prior to the journey, they will not need to take a Covid test but instead, be required to demonstrate proof of recovery.

Testing Centres in Ischia

Many of the island's chemists' are now offering the tests including the Farmacia del Porto in Ischia Porto.

Tests are also available at the Casa di Cura San Giovan Giuseppe in Ischia Ponte.
The tests are carried out in an outdoor location close to the medical centre. The PCR Tests cost €80 and the Lateral Flow/Rapid Antigen Tests cost €35. Tests take place between 12:00 and 13:00 Monday to Friday or on Saturdays from 09:00 to 10:00. |
PCR Test results are available between 24 and 48 hours after the test has been carried out. Typically, if you take a test at 12:00 on a Monday for example, the result will be available by the Wednesday morning,
The Rapid Antigen test results are generally much faster: for a test taken in the morning, the results should be available that same afternoon.

When you start the process of booking your Covid test, the medical centre will ask you the following details:
If it's easier, you can type those details into a draft email, take a photo of it and send it to the clinic via WhatsApp. Then once they've confirmed the appointment, you can delete the photo and also delete the draft email.

The tests themselves take place at the car park close to the Zio Peppe Pizzeria which is a 9 minute walk away on the same road at a distance of 750 metres.
When your PCR Test Result is available, it will be sent to you via email and written in both English and Italian.

Rapid Antigen tests are now available at the Sciaudone test centre in Forio.
Tests are available between 10:30 and 13:00 Monday to Friday and no pre-booking is necessary. Results are usually available within around 15 minutes and cost €20. PCR Tests are not available here. |

Further Help
Some visitors to the island have expressed concern that it may be difficult to organise one of the tests if their level of Italian isn't sufficient. For anybody in that situation, please don't worry, we will be happy to help you organise it.
