GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! FRIDAY 18TH OCTOBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Friday 18th October 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
It's another beautiful start to the day in Ischia with bright sunshine and temperatures due to reach around 23 celcius/74 fahrenheit this afternoon.
Today's photo is of Maronti beach in Barano. It's the biggest beach on the island and spectacular to view from above. The photo was taken from a viewing area on the approach road down to the beach and it's the perfect place to stop and gaze out at the magnificent view. Apart from Maronti beach you can also see across to Sant'Angelo with its giant rock protruding from the shoreline and also to Le Fumarole beach which is separated from Maronti beach by the white cliff in the middle of the two.
Le Fumarole beach is famous for the "fumaroles", steam that rises up through the sand at the rear of the beach. The sand in this section of the beach is so hot that you can actually use it to cook food! Many locals and even some of the restaurants nearby use this section to prepare all sorts of food such as chicken, fish or potatoes. The food is wrapped in bags or containers before a hole is dug in the sand. The food is then placed inside the hole and left to cook for the required amount of time. The results are delicious, freshly-cooked food that you can enjoy as a picnic on the beach under the sun or the stars at night-time.
I would urge caution though to anybody who is considering trying this for themselves, the sand is very very hot and it's best to ask somebody who knows what they're doing to help you. If you need any more information on this then just drop us a line and we'll be glad to help.
Anyway, whether you're planning an impromptu, sand-cooked picnic or instead leaving all the cooking to somebody else, enjoy your day in the lovely October sunshine and we'll be back tomorrow with more about Ischia.
