GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! FRIDAY 3RD JANUARY 2014
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Friday 3rd January 2014.
Good morning Ischia!
We've got a bit of a mixed bag with the weather today, at times it's been really warm and sunny and at other times it's been quite grey and overcast. Yesterday was a similar story, starting off very well and then turning cloudy and eventually rainy as the evening set in. The outlook for the next few days shows a gradual deterioration and a drop in temperatures as we go into next week. For today though it remains quite warm even under the clouds and we're looking at a maximum of 17° Celcius (62° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 14°C (58°F).
Today's photo comes from the beautiful village of Sant'Angelo which sits on Ischia's southern coast. With its pretty houses, fishing harbour and giant rock that's connected to the land by a double-sided beach, Sant'Angelo is one of the most popular destinations for visitors to the island.
As you approach the village via a winding, descending road the first thing you notice is the huge rock that looks a little bit like a giant Panettone cake, and then the crystal clear water that surrounds it, creating little splashes of the brightest blue and turquoise shades. The main part of the village is pedestrianised and the only vehicles you see are micro-taxis delivering goods or tourists to their hotels via the narrow, undulating lanes that make up the labyrinth of tiny walkways.
The village has some excellent restaurants, specialising in freshly caught fish and pasta dishes, there are also some great pizzerias such as Da Pasquale which has a reputation among the very highest on the island for its pizzas. Looking out to sea on a clear day you can see the island of Capri and the peninsula of Sorrento a little further in the distance. Sant'Angelo is also surrounded by great beaches in every direction, on one side there is the beautiful little beach of Cava Grado and on the other there are the larger beaches of Le Fumarole and Maronti. A great way to see both of the latter beaches is by taking a water taxi from the village harbour for a relatively small cost, around €3 per person for the short boat ride and then you can either choose to walk back, carry on along the beach and then take a bus back from Maronti or alternatively just take another water taxi back to the village, the last of these options being by far the easiest.
Ok that's all for today, we're always here if anybody has any questions about Ischia so just drop us a line using the e-mail address below and we'll get straight back to you.
Have a great day wherever you are.
A domani!
