GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! MONDAY 16TH DECEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Monday 16th December 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
We wake to clear skies on a sunny and crisp Monday morning in Ischia with yesterday afternoon's rain long forgotten. Having a quick walk around outside I was very surprised to see a couple of pink roses blossoming, providing a welcome splash of summer colour in an otherwise autumnal garden, while just below a nervous grey cat tried unsuccessfully to camouflage itself against some yellow and brown leaves. The fruit on the mandarin tree is ripening to its bright orange glow and sits against the background of blue shades provided by the sea and sky.
The weathermen seem to all be singing in unison from the same hymn-sheet, predicting sunshine and temperatures ranging from a minimum of 11° Celcius (52° fahrenheit) to a maximum of 15°C (59°F). Overnight it does feel a little bit chilly but standing under the sun it feels unseasonably warm.
Today's photo was taken last night in Forio town centre which is now full of beautiful and interesting Christmas lights and decorations. This image shows a projection on to the Luca Balsofiore school and there is a similar system in place lighting up the tower of Il Torrione museum down at the harbour. There are huge Christmas trees as well, all adorned with fairy lights and a variety of other illuminations lighting up the town, giving it a real sense of festive cheer.
The Christmas celebrations are not restricted solely to Forio of course as the whole island gears up for the festive period with their own decorations and events. Over in Ischia Ponte for example you'll soon be able to see some of the beautifully-crafted nativity scenes on show throughout the town, a tradition that stretches back over many years. There will also be the "presepe vivente" in the small village of Campagnano on the 29th December, where the villagers transform the area into a mini-Jerusalem and perform the roles of the nativity which is one of the highlights of the Christmas in Ischia programme.
Of course we'll be keeping you up to date with everything that's going on with photos and information but if you have any specific questions don't forget you can always call or drop us a line if you need some personalised help.
Anyway, until tomorrow morning.
Ciao!
