GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! MONDAY 20TH JANUARY 2014
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Monday 20th January 2014.
Good morning Ischia!
Well better late than never you might say! After the briefest of sojourns away from Ischia, I'm safely back on the island after a whirlwind 48 hour trip down to Calabria. Having made the rail journey north today I've witnessed all kinds of weather, heavy rain, bright sunshine, rainbows, hailstones and thick grey cloud as the train sped through the Calabrian countryside, momentarily touching the region of Basilicata before entering Campania's largest city, Naples. A big thumbs-up by the way to the Trenitalia Intercity service for the extremely clean and comfy train we had.
By all accounts the weather today in Ischia has echoed the conditions further south as described above with the only exception being a spooky spell of rain that occurred when there were no clouds overhead! Temperatures today have hovered between a maximum of 16° Celcius (61° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 12°C (54°F) and we look to be in for more of the same tomorrow. In fact the outlook for the rest of the week is looking a bit on the negative side with more wind and rain on the way. At this stage the weekend looks to be bringing some brief respite but this is typically the worst weather period of the year and we can expect our fair share of unsettled conditions for a little while longer.
The penultimate leg of the journey back to Ischia was looking slightly doubtful at one point as huge waves lashed around the ferry port in Naples (Porta di Massa) but the sea wasn't considered to be too rough to stop our chosen crossing. It wasn't the smoothest of sailings as we were rocking around a bit but I must say I've had worse and again, credit to Caremar for keeping things moving and safely getting everyone to their chosen destination.
I've chosen today's photo for a nice little reminder of a much more leisurely crossing to Ischia by private speedboat. With the sun shining down and the beautiful scenery that surrounds you as you head towards the green island, there's surely no better way to start your holiday with a little touch of luxury. If you're reading this and you fancy taking the posh route from the mainland then drop us a line and we'll give you all the details.
Ok that's all from me for today, the blog will be back to normal tomorrow morning so keep an eye out here or on our facebook page for the next update.
A domani!
