GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! SATURDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Saturday 14th December 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
So how are you all today? Did you make it safely through Friday the 13th? I was doing ok until I saw that the count for the number of solitaire games I'd lost on my phone had reached 666 and then started to get a bit worried and hastily lost another one deliberately, just to avoid any calamitous bad luck that could be caused by those most ominous of figures occurring at the same time! Anyway, I've checked myself this morning and I seem to be reasonably unscathed and can once again able to venture outside without fear, touching wood of course, just to be sure.....
Moving on to the weather, I'm happy to report a continuation of what we've had all week, bright sunny skies and a very light wind with temperatures expected to reach a maximum of 14° Celcius (58° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 12°C (53°F), feeling warm in the afternoons and a little bit chilly at night but barely cold enough to require putting the heating on.
For today's photo I've chosen one of my favourite subjects, the bay of Citara in Forio. I love the way the colour of the water there changes every day with different shades of bright blue appearing in different places each time, almost like an artist who's trying to paint a picture that he's never quite satisfied with and decides to make some subtle adjustments in an effort to reach perfection. The areas in which the blue is the brightest are where the water is at its most shallow and this changes because of the tides and the winds. There was a period during the summer where you could swim out around a hundred metres from the beach and then reach a slightly submerged island of sand where you could sit down in the water and chat with your friends.
Of course it's a little bit too cold to even consider swimming in the sea right now but the bay is still a magnet visitors of a different kind. During these calm evenings that we've been having of late, walking past Citara at night time you'll be struck my the amount of lights bobbing around out on the water. The lights belong to lots of small fishing vessels who find the shallow waters ideal for catching their fresh evening meal. On a clear night, the stars in the sky mingle with the lights of the boats to create a seemingly endless panorama of twinkling jewels that stretches further than the eye can see. For anybody who is in Ischia right now or planning to come over the next few days then I can highly recommend an evening walk along the coast road from the centre of Forio down to Citara where you can enjoy this wonderful spectacle.
Ok that's all from for today, I hope you all enjoy your weekend and remember we're always here if you want to say hello or ask us any questions about the island so just drop us a line at the address below and we'll be very happy to hear from you.
A domani!
