GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! SATURDAY 19TH OCTOBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Saturday 19th October 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
Welcome to another beautiful day on our magnificent island. The sun is out again and we should be seeing temperatures of around 24 celcius/74 fahrenheit.
Today's photo shows San Francesco beach with the looming presence of Mount Epomeo in the background. The mountain can be seen from most places as it climbs to a height of 788 metres above sea-level and the trees and foliage that cover it give it the shades of green that have partly contributed to the island becoming known as "The Green Island".
There are some fabulous walks that you can enjoy on Mount Epomeo with a variety of views and different types of terrain to explore. Some parts of the mountain are covered in dense forest while others offer incredible panoramic views of the rest of the island and of the sea beyond.
The Frassitelli vineyards are very close to the summit and a favourite destination for walkers who are rewarded for their efforts with fantastic vistas that include some of the neighbouring islands such as Capri and points on the mainland such as Sorrento. On most days when the sky is clear you can see as far away as the islands of Ventotene and even Ponza which sits behind it. Ponza is 3 to 4 hours away from Ischia by boat but on a clear evening you can see lights on the island and think that it's just a short hop away.
If you'd like some more information about hiking routes, Mount Epomeo or even some of the neighbouring islands then please drop us a line at the address below and we'll be happy to help.
For now, enjoy the rest of your day and in particular this wonderful sunshine that just doesn't seem to want to go away!
