GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! SATURDAY 25TH JANUARY 2014
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Saturday 25th January 2014.
Good morning Ischia!
We have an improving start to the day here in Forio, there's a bit of damp in the air but no actual rain, just the remnants of the previous week's downpours. There are all sorts of clouds around, little puffy white and grey ones, long stick-like ones with serrated edges and one very peculiar one that's completely black while at the same time carrying no obvious threat of a shower. The island of Ventotene is a pitch-black silhouette and for the first time in a long time, the island of Ponza which is 50 miles away from Ischia can be clearly seen and bathed in sunshine.
Temperatures today should see a maximum of just 10° Celcius (50° fahrenheit), by far the lowest it's been for just about a year, and a minimum of 8°C (46°F) which represents a slight drop from yesterday. The rest of the weekend looks to be good with more bright weather expected and then the early part of next week seems to be a bit unsettled again which is par for the course at this time of year.
Today's photo comes from Forio town centre, the beautiful fountain sitting in the small square along the main shopping thoroughfare. Forio is the second largest of Ischia's six main towns/regions ("comune" in Italian) and arguably the most popular among visitors to the island. The biggest attraction of the town is undoubtedly its collection of excellent beaches. Situated along Ischia's west coast, Forio is blessed with some beautiful bays with stretches of soft golden sand and crystal clear water. The largest beach in Forio is Citara which is also home to one of the island's best thermal water parks, Poseidon Thermal Gardens. Heading back in the direction of the town centre there's Cava dell'Isola beach, popular among younger people who like to play water-sports or beach-games such as volleyball or beach-tennis, you'll also find groups of friends with guitars having a sing-song now and then so it's definitely the place to go if you're looking for some fun. Closest to the town centre is La Chiaia beach, it's deep and wide and its shallow waters make it a great place to take children as you can happily let them paddle without fear of going out too deep. It's a real family beach where you'll see large groups enjoying picnics together and as its so close to the town centre it's easily accessible from anywhere on the island.
The town centre itself is great for shopping and eating out, you can buy gifts, clothes and all kinds of souvenirs while there are dozens of restaurants to choose from. Forio also has its own hydrofoil port meaning it's just an hour away from the mainland, a fact that any visitors with accommodation booked in the area should consider as it could save money on taxi fares that you may have thought you'd be saving by taking the cheaper ferry to Casamicciola or Ischia Porto. There's some great night life to be had down by the port area with dozens of bars, restaurants and nightclubs to tempt you with a bit of well-deserved fun after a hard day's sunbathing!
For anyone planning a visit to Forio, drop us a line and we'll be happy to give you some help and advice on accommodation, eating out, transport and things to see & do during your stay. We can also help you plan your crossing to ensure you don't unnecessarily waste valuable holiday time or money by choosing the wrong arrival port. Just remember, we're here to help and want you to have a great time when you're here so you can go and tell your friends and family about your experience when you get home.
Ok that's all from me today, have a great weekend wherever you are and I'll be back with more tomorrow morning.
A domani!
