GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! SATURDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Saturday 26th October 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
It's another bright and sunny start to the day to usher in the weekend. Temperatures should reach 25° celcius 76° fahrenheit this afternoon and we look set for similar conditions tomorrow.
Today's photo is of Casamicciola harbour. The Virgin Mary welcomes travellers in to port as the presence of Mount Epomeo looms large in the background. The bright blue colour of the water in the harbour lays testament to how clear and clean it is, a feature you will note at every beach and seaside location on the island.
The harbour in Casamicciola is used by both ferries and hydrofoils, as well as luxury yachts, recreational boats, fishing boats and the emergency services such as the coastguard and the Carabinieri who have jet-skis among their fleet of maritime craft.
There are three ports on the island where you can travel to via a commercial carrier from the mainland, Casamicciola as already mentioned, the capital, Ischia Porto which serves ferries and hydrofoils and also Forio which is just for hydrofoils. Most of the services are between Ischia and Naples with many of those stopping to pick-up and drop-off passengers at Procida on the way. You can also catch a ferry to and from Pozzuoli on the mainland which is a great solution of travelling by car. Pozzuoli is slightly north of Naples but by travelling there by car you can avoid the busy streets of Naples and save yourself some time, particularly if heading north to Rome or Tuscany.
Ischia also has two other ports worthy of mention, Lacco Ameno and Sant'Angelo. Although you won't find any of the 4 main commercial companies (Medmar, SNAV, Caremar and Alilauro) offering services there, you will find it is often the home of so-called "super-yachts". The pretty harbour is a great place to gaze at some of these amazing structures and if you're the kind of person who likes to spot the rich and famous, then this could very well be the place for you as the yacht's owners pull into town. Sant'Angelo on the other hand is much more low-key with just a few fishing vessels as well as the recreational boat and coastguard.
For more information on how to get to Ischia by sea we have a full guide available which includes timetables and prices of the various services available. If you still need help then feel free to drop us a line or speak to us on live-chat if that little box on the left that says "Need Help" is green, if it's grey it means we're temporarily away and it's best to call us on the phone or send us an e-mail.
Ok, so whether you're already in Ischia or planning a trip here I hope you found that useful, but wherever you are in the world, have a great day and enjoy the weekend!
Ciao
