GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! SUNDAY 23RD FEBRUARY 2014
Every day we bring you a fresh instalment of our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Sunday 23rd February 2014.
Good Morning Ischia!
It's a gorgeous start to the day in Ischia, once again bathed in sunshine and with winter rapidly coming to an end. There's a light breeze but the sea is nice and calm and we're set fair for another week of great weather. Today's predicted highest temperature should be around 14° Celsius (57° Fahrenheit) dropping to around 10°C (50°F) this evening.
Riding around the island at the moment the most noticeable thing is the dominant colours provided by the wild flowers at the edge of gardens or close to the beaches. You don't have to look too far to find great swathes of yellow provided by the daisies but over the last few days they are being complemented by large patches of purple lavender with its strong aromas, particularly when crushed in the hand.
Spring is still officially a full four weeks away but you'd have trouble convincing anybody currently on Ischia of that. Most people have been out tending to their gardens for the last few weeks, planting seeds and bulbs for the summer to come. In fact I've already spent a good portion of this morning making some rearrangements to our own garden having cleared a big new space where we'll be planting all kinds of things including dahlias, sunflowers, roses, hibiscus, calla lillies, gladioli and hollyhocks to name but a few. As we progress through the seasons I'll keep you up to date with what's worked and what hasn't with some photos sprinkled in along the way.
That moves me neatly on to the subject of today's photo (visible on our facebook page) which is of the wonderful Castello Aragonese at sunset when its ancient front walls are at their brightest in contrast to the dimming evening light towards the back in its gardens. The photo was taken from the area known as Piano Liguori, close to Ischia Ponte where you can enjoy some fabulous mountain hikes if that's your kind of thing.
We've been making great progress with the site upgrade and I think everything should be finished in a couple of weeks or so at which point I'll be able to resume the blog on a more regular basis. That said, we're still here and happily answering all your e-mails so if you do have any questions about the island please don't hesitate to ask and it'll be our pleasure to help.
Ok so that's all for today, I'll be back with more next Sunday so unless I hear from you then have a great week.
A presto!
