GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! SUNDAY 2ND FEBRUARY 2014
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Sunday 2nd February 2014.
Good Morning Ischia!
It's a slightly grey and damp start to the day here in Forio. The thick curtain that's covering the island is making visibility very low, normally when I look out to sea I can see the island of Ventotene or if it's really clear then Ponza as well but today I can't even see the sea itself as it's being camouflaged by various shades of grey. On the plus side, there's no real wind to speak of and therefore no chance of any disruption to ferry and hydrofoil crossings for those of you planning a trip today.
Despite the rain, temperatures remain relatively warm with a maximum of 15° Celcius (60° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 10° Celcius (51° fahrenheit) which is pretty good considering we're now into the coldest month of the year. Looking ahead it's shaping up to be a bit of a damp week with rain predicted for every day until Friday and Saturday when things should brighten up a bit but I'm sure those forecasts will fluctuate as we progress through the week.
Today's photo comes the beautiful village of Sant'Angelo which lies at the the south-west of the island in the region of Serrara Fontana. The photo was taken last week when the wind was at its peak causing the waves to lash against the rocks at the bottom of the cliff, quite a spectacular sight in what is already an area of outstanding natural beauty. The village is one of the most popular destinations on the island and despite being quite small it has lots to offer. There are two thermal water parks, Aphrodite and Tropical, three beaches (Cava Grado, Le Fumarole and Chiaia di Rose), lots of restaurants including the famous "Dal Pescatore" and "Pizzeria da Pasquale" which is highly regarded among islanders for the quality of its pizzas, (this in a place where people are extremely passionate and fussy about where they eat their pizza!).
Sant'Angelo also has a great choice when it comes to accommodation including a good selection of hotels, bed and breakfasts and private apartments. Every year at Easter, the German chancellor Angela Merkel takes her annual holiday in the village and usually stays at the fabulous four star Miramare Sea Resort & Spa.
The area is also great for walking with dozens of routes available, stretching from the mountain regions right down to the beaches mentioned above as well as the nearby Maronti. It's also possible to take water taxis from the centre of the village to nearby spots including Maronti which costs around €3 per person.
For anyone interested in visiting Sant'Angelo soon you can use our travel information pages to help you get there or to work out which bus to take but if you still can't find what you're looking for we're always here to help if you drop us a line.
Ok that's all from me today, have a great Sunday wherever you are and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
A domani!
