GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! THURSDAY 12TH DECEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Thursday 12th December 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
Buongiorno a tutti. I write to you all this morning at a time just before the sun is up and the island is having a collective snooze before waking up to go about it’s daily business. The only sound outside is from a few early birds busily chattering about the worms they may have just caught and apart from that there’s a veil of silence covering the island like a beloved duvet in the hour before the alarm goes off. It does feel a little bit chilly right now but we’re set for some lovely temperatures today with a maximum of 17° Celcius (62° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 12°C (54°F) if the weathermen have got it right.
Walking around the garden this morning the most striking thing is the abundance of autumn colours, everywhere you look there is some kind of orange, yellow or brown, beautifully highlighted by the leaves in today’s photo. We really are getting close to the end of autumn now with winter just over a week away and those leaves that you can see in the image above are falling ever more rapidly, changing from green to orange, yellow and then brown before dying and leaving the bare foliage beneath.
The cherry tree has just a few remaining orange leaves and makes a beautiful contrast in its position just next to the lemon tree with its burgeoning supply of yellow fruit dangling like Christmas baubles. There’s a red, yellow and orange Dahlia that is still somehow producing new flowers even now, but perhaps the largest source of colour in the garden at this moment comes from the collection of orange trees which are full to the brim of the delicious fruit that we use to make juice every morning.
Winter in Ischia and Italy officially starts on December the 21st and lasts until the 21st March. As we approach that date we have slightly less daylight each day until reaching the winter solstice when we start to see gradually earlier sun-rises and later sun-sets. For those people interested to know more about the annual weather conditions on Ischia we have two pages that may interest you. The first one is called climate in Ischia and explains when the seasons change, while the other is our Ischia Weather Tracker in which we record the temperature every day and also show you average historic temperatures by month which may help if you’re planning a trip here and not sure what weather to expect at a particular time of the year.
Ok that’s all from me this morning, the sun is rising and I’m off to run a few errands across the island, camera always at my side and hoping to get some nice new photos of this autumnally-coloured island. Feel free to drop us a line of you have any questions about the island and of course it’ll be our pleasure to help.
Ciao!
