GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! THURSDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Thursday 21st November 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
It's a slightly grey start to the day here in Forio and the couple of puddles in the garden suggest there must have been some overnight rain as well. The forecast for the day seems to be a mixture of cloud, sunshine and showers with the possibility of some slightly nastier stuff during the early hours of tomorrow morning. The predicted maximum temperature for today is 16° celcius (61° fahrenheit) which is the lowest it's been for some time while the minimum is just a touch higher than yesterday with around 14°C (56°F) expected for tonight.
Today's photo is of the Punta Chiarito Resort in Forio. From this angle, guests relaxing by the pool get a wonderful view across to Sant'Angelo while on the other side is the equally scenic bay of Sorgeto. This particular area of the island is one of the most beautiful with some stunning scenery.
Forio is the town that dominates the western part of the island and is one of the six "comune" (boroughs) of the island along with Ischia (Porto), Casamicciola, Lacco Ameno, Serrara Fontana and Barano. Each main comune then has smaller towns within their borders and these smaller towns are known as "frazione". One of the larger frazione on the island is Panza which comes under the auspices of Forio and covers the area shown in the photo.
Panza itself is a very quiet little town with a few shops, churches, bars and restaurants around the main residential area. It can be reached by following the main SS270 road that circles the island, a few minutes drive after passing the bay of Citara and then taking the turn off towards the sea and you eventually reach a pretty little square with some bars, a greengrocers and a church in the corner. It is from this point that the real beauty of Panza can be enjoyed by continuing on foot. Heading away from the town square in the direction of the sea you can see some of the most dramatic scenery that Ischia has to offer.
By exploring the road towards the coast you can encounter such beauty spots as La Scannella, a charming little cove which has crystal clear water and is a favourite destination for boats and small yachts as they drop anchor so that the passengers can stop for a swim or a spot of sunbathing. Heading west from La Scannella you cross through some winding country lanes, passing vineyards on one side and the sea on the other until you eventually reach the remarkable Sorgeto Hot Springs where you can bathe any time during the day or night and the water is guaranteed to be hot.
For anybody who enjoys walking and nature, the area around the coast in Panza offers a full day of intrigue, interest and relaxation and you can even combine your walk by putting your feet up in the natural jacuzzi that is Sorgeto. We've got lots more information and ideas about walking routes not only around Panza but for the whole island so if you're keen to know more drop us a line and we'll be very happy to help you plan your day out.
Ok that's all for today, have a great day wherever in the world you may be and we'll be back with some more about Ischia tomorrow morning and happy to share our thoughts on this beautiful part of the world.
A domani!
