GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! THURSDAY 5TH DECEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Thursday 5th December 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
It's another beautiful morning in Ischia, the sun is gradually peeking its head above Mount Epomeo, bathing us in bright sunshine and giving us that extra bit of warmth in the fresh winter air. The sea is calm and from where I'm looking it almost looks as if somebody has hit the pause button as it's difficult to detect the slightest bit of movement from this range. In the distance I can hear a dog dutifully warning of what is no doubt a false alarm and the only other sound is of my coffee-pot gurgling away, signifying that it's time to pour the essential morning liquid.
The forecast for the rest of today looks excellent with lots of those little sunshine icons lighting up the weather maps and the expected temperatures are almost identical to those of yesterday, a maximum of 16° celcius (61° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 12°C (54°F), which certainly felt quite warm in the afternoon. Maybe it's the day to do a spot of gardening!
Today's photo was taken from Nitrodi Natural Springs in Barano and shows a side to Ischia that may surprise people that haven't had the chance to visit the island yet. The rugged green rocks look like they could belong in Northern European regions such as Cornwall in England or even some parts of Scotland rather than an island just off the coast of Southern Italy.
Undoubtedly the biggest draw for visitors to Ischia are the beaches, the thermal parks and some of the historical sights such as Castello Aragonese, but away from those places there is a different side to Ischia where nature is left untouched, providing a wonderful environment in which to explore and breathe in the fresh air. The towns of Ischia Porto, Ischia Ponte, Forio, Casamicciola, Lacco Ameno and Sant'Angelo are beautiful places to base your holiday from and each has its own unique charm, but the less-heralded Barano and Serrara Fontana have something slightly different to offer with their wide open spaces, forests and walking routes with stunning views along the way.
Barano of course is no stranger to the beach life as it is home to Ischia's largest beach, Maronti, while Sant'Angelo has plenty of beaches and comes under the jurisdiction of Serrara Fontana, but both towns are worth deeper consideration for their other other characteristics. For those people who like to combine their holidays with hiking and nature then the areas of Barano and Serrara Fontana offer something all year round. Today for example we are well into December but you would have a fantastic time walking around some of the hilly or mountainous regions with beautiful sunshine to accompany you on your journey and plenty to see along the way.
In fact having written that I've convinced myself to get out there and go for a nice walk myself!
Anyway, that's all for this morning's blog and I'll be back tomorrow with some more. Please keep your e-mails coming in, it's great to hear from you all with your stories about Ischia and we're always happy to help potential new visitors by asking any questions they might have. The e-mail address is just below.
Ok have a great day wherever you are.
Ciao!
