GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! TUESDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Tuesday 12th November 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
After a few days of unsettled weather with rain, storms and high winds, things seem to be settling down a bit as we wake up to bright blue skies and glorious morning sunshine. The outlook for the next few days is for more of the same with lots of those lovely full sun icons dominating the forecasts. The temperature today is a bit down on what it has been over the last few weeks with a high of 18° celcius (65° fahrenheit) predicted for the afternoon, and a minimum of around 17°C (62°F) this evening.
Today's photo is of one of the outdoor massage beds at the five star Mezzatorre Resort & Spa which overlooks the beautiful bay of San Montano in Lacco Ameno. The pretty bay is one of the most popular spots on the island and with good reason too. One one side of the bay the aforementioned Mezzatorre sits on a promontory which affords magnificent panoramic views across the sea and to the mainland, while high up on the other side is another five star hotel, the San Montano Resort & Spa which has its own spectacular scenery but from a different angle.
Sandwiched in between the two hotels is the bay and San Montano Beach itself. Flanked by the cliffs on either side, the beach is a great place to do some swimming or snorkelling with very light waves and lots of little rocky areas by the cliffs to explore the wide variety of fish. It's also a popular destination for people with canoes and kayaks who like to discover some of the bays close by that can only be accessed from the water.
Apart from all of the above, San Montano is also home to the wonderful Negombo Thermal Gardens, one of Ischia's most popular attractions. Negombo has a dozen swimming pools all heated naturally by the thermal water to a range of temperatures. It's wellness spa draws people from all over the world with its wide range of treatments and the gardens alone are worth a visit, having been carefully nurtured for more than 50 years with some rare and fascinating botanical examples at almost every turn.
The bay of San Montano is situated in the town of Lacco Ameno, the smallest of Ischia's six boroughs or "comune". From the main square, Piazza Santa Restituta, San Montano bay is a five minute walk away. If you take the road that leads up the hill you will eventually come across a right hand turn signposted for Negombo and if you walk down to the bottom of this road you will arrive at the beach.
For more information about all of the beaches in Ischia you can use our guide here, or simply drop us a line if you have something specific that you'd like to ask.
Anyway that's all for today, have a great day wherever you are and if you're here in Ischia then sit back and enjoy the sunshine!
A domani.
