GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! TUESDAY 14TH JANUARY 2014
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Tuesday 14th January 2014.
Good morning Ischia!
Today's blog comes to you pre-dawn with the sun not due to rise for another hour or so and before the birds have even cleared their throats for the morning chorus. The only perceptible noise coming from some restless rooster in the distance who clearly has a faulty alarm clock. Despite the darkness it feels surprisingly mild outside and the chilly temperatures that you'd normally expect at this time of year have still to arrive. We're expecting a maximum of 16° Celcius (61° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 12°C (53°F) which is slightly up on yesterday.
The outlook for the rest of the day is looking slightly gloomy with some rain expected this afternoon which could last until this evening and possibly through to tomorrow morning. There's a slight wind as well but certainly not enough to trouble any ferry or hydrofoil crossings.
Today's photo comes from the village of Panza, a little grocery store displaying its colourful collection of fresh fruit and veg. Panza is a district ("frazione") of Forio which is one of the six main towns of Ischia, the others being Ischia (Ischia Porto & Ischia Ponte), Casamicciola, Lacco Ameno, Serrara Fontana and Barano. Panza lies between Forio's bay of Citara and the famous village of Sant'Angelo. The village centre is smaller than that of Forio but still boasts a good number of shops and other facilities such as several hairdresser's a couple of churches, a post office, a tourist information office, various bars and restaurants.
Possibly the most famous landmark in Panza is Sorgeto Hot Springs which draws visitors from all over the world with its natural jacuzzi while there are also several beauty spots to discover such as the bay of La Scannella with it's crystal clear water. Panza is also very popular with hikers with some great walking routes available, those with a good fitness level might enjoy the walk down to Sant'Angelo via a scenic path that passes through another small district known as Succhivo before reaching the pretty little beach at Cava Grado.
We've got lots of ideas about walking routes around the area described above so if you're interested in more information just drop us a line and we'll be happy to share those with you.
Ok that's all from me today, I'm off to see what I can find in the tangling metropolis of Naples and will dutifully report back with my findings tomorrow morning. Have a great day wherever you are.
A domani!
