GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! TUESDAY 19TH NOVEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Tuesday 19th November 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
We have a slightly unhappy sky to greet us this morning with a few clouds around and the promise of some showers throughout the day. There were some strong winds and heavy rain overnight and the unsettled weather looks set to stay for a couple of days with things gradually calming down by Thursday. Looking on the bright side though, it's great for the garden to get a good soaking after all the autumn sunshine we've had and it also means I don't have to get outside and water the whole thing myself! Temperatures today are slightly down on yesterday with a maximum of 21°C (69°F) for this afternoon, dropping to around 16°C (60°F) tonight.
The gradual change of the weather coupled with (dare I mention the "C" word this early!) Christmas (couldn't resist, sorry!) on the horizon means that the island starts to go through something of a metamorphosis. Throughout spring, summer and most of autumn, Ischia enjoys a steady flow of visitors but as we head in to the winter months, many hotels and businesses use the time to plan for next year by making improvements or doing some of those jobs that just weren't possible when there were so many guests to look after.
However, this is not the case everywhere and there are many hotels, apartments and other types of accommodation that stay open right throughout the year. It's difficult to count exactly the total number of places where you can stay in Ischia but a good estimate would be anywhere between 750 - 1,000. That number includes lots of smaller hotels, guest-houses and B&B's and it's difficult to imagine how an island measuring just 6 miles by 4 can be so accommodating. However, anybody who has been here will testify that it is rare to see buildings with more than 2 or 3 floors on the island and this helps to maintain the feeling of wide open space, despite that large number of potential visitors.
That sense of space and freedom is only heightened during the winter months when the comparatively small number of businesses are open and it's a great time to come and explore the island. There are some fabulous hotels and apartments that stay open all year round and at this time of the year you can find some incredible bargains. Most of the island's restaurants stay open throughout the year as well and with the reduced number of fellow tourists around you can get almost VIP service and the best seats in the house with marvellous views that you might otherwise have to fight for during the busier periods.
Flights are usually a bit cheaper too during the period before Christmas (yes that word again!), so why not use the flight-checker below to see if you can find some bargain deals. There's also the hotel booking engine next to it with some silly prices being offered for great accommodation and it could be just the right time to take advantage of what's on offer here. You can always drop us a line as well and we'll be happy to give you all of the advice about where to stay, what you can do and how to get here.
Ok that's all for today, I'll be back with more tomorrow. Enjoy your day wherever you are we hope to see you here soon!
A domani.
