GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! TUESDAY 22ND OCTOBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Tuesday 22nd October 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
The spell of autumn sunshine and warmth continues unabated today with temperatures again forecast to be up around 25° celcius (77° fahrenheit) this afternoon.
Today's photo is of a sculpture by the late Giovanni Maltese (1852-1913). Maltese lived most of his life in Forio and is highly cherished both in his home town and across the island for his fantastic work. Not only was he venerated for his sculptures but also for his highly accomplished painting and poetry.
Maltese spent much of his life living in "Il Torrione", the fortress tower in the centre of Forio that was originally built to deter raids by corsairs in the middle-ages. The tower, his former home, is now a museum dedicated to his life and work and a fascinating testimony to one of Forio's favourite sons. We'll be releasing more photos of Maltese's work over the coming weeks and months but let us know if you're interested in further information & photos and we'll be happy to oblige.
Ok that's all for today, enjoy the sunshine!
