GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! TUESDAY 5TH NOVEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Tuesday 5th November 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
So after a 3 week period of almost uninterrupted sunshine we're now getting a little bit of payback from Mother Nature. The threatened storm arrived late last night with 30mph winds, thunder and lightning. The very worst of it looks to be over now but there will still be some rain around this morning, heavy at times, becoming gradually lighter towards this evening. Despite the rain the air temperature is still quite high for this time of year with a maximum of 23° celcius (73° fahrenheit) predicted for this afternoon and a minimum of 17°C (63°F) this evening.
The outlook for the rest of the week is much better however. After today the wind and rain should disappear for the majority of the week and we can look forward to some more, bright and sunny days ahead.
You could be forgiven for thinking today's photo is of some rather un-seasonal Christmas bawbles but is in fact of some pomegranates hanging in The Ischia Garden. The brightly-coloured fruit is seen in many shops and supermarkets across the world but is seldom among the most popular, possibly due to the fact that it's slightly difficult to eat if you're not at home or near a kitchen. Inside the fruit are a mixture of small seeds and white membrane, and it's only the seeds and the gel that keep them in place that are edible. However, with a bit of care and attention the pomegranate (melograno in Italian) can provide a delicious breakfast alternative by mixing it with cereal or for making jam (marmellata).
The pomegranate tree is just one of many fruit trees in The Ischia Garden and we'll be keeping you up to date with all of the new fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers as they appear at different times throughout the year.
Today the people of Panza are continuing to honour the patron saint of their town, San Leonardo Abate, with several religious ceremonies taking place throughout the day in the church that bears his name so make your way over there today if you're interested in seeing a mass in an Italian church.
I should also give a nod to everyone in the UK today who will be celebrating Guy Fawkes Night with firework displays across the country. Have fun and keep safe.
Ok that's all from me for today, have a great day wherever you are and if you're in Ischia, make sure you take an umbrella with you!
A domani
Today's name day: San Zaccaria the prophet
