GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! WEDNESDAY 15TH JANUARY 2014
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Wednesday 15th January 2014.
Good morning Ischia!
It's an absolutely beautiful day here in Ischia. We've got clear skies and bright sunshine which is all a very far cry from yesterday. Having started the day (far too!) early for a trip to Naples I was able to fully experience the gradually wetter weather as I didn't have sufficient protection and duly got soaked. I arrived home late last night looking like an Irish Wolfhound that's just been for a swim in the sea who nobody wants to let in the house. After eventually negotiating my way in to the house I managed to dry out and was very glad to see the changed conditions outside.
Standing out in the garden a moment ago I was surveying the scene in order to describe the day and I was joined for my brief moment of repose by a tiny bird who seemed to be keen on making a friendship with me although now that I think about it, that was probably due to the large piece of Pandoro cake that I was stood munching on at the time! I'm not exactly sure what type of bird it was but I'm seeing more and more of them over the last few days. The first words that sprang to mind when trying to think of the species were "Sparrow" and "Grey Tit" but having done a quick Google search they look very similar so I can't be sure which is which. I'll check further when I next have one of our brief encounters by the rose bush.
Anyway, the weather today is simply fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed my scooter ride down to Forio this morning. It was so nice out that I decided to make my way over to one of the beaches and ended up in that charming little corner of the world known as San Francesco with its charming beach which is where I took today's photo. Obviously we're not quite at the stage for sunbathing yet but the beach wasn't empty, a contented fisherman was relaxing with his rod fixed in the sand and staring out on to the Tyrhennian sea, no doubt hoping for some delicious specimen to be fooled by his bait before being devoured for lunch.
The area around San Francesco is very quiet at this time of year and well worth a stroll if nearby. There's a beautiful old church on the hill that leads up to the picturesque area of Zaro where you can look back down on to the beach from above. There are also some great restaurants close by including La Rondinella which despite its appearance as a beach-side snack-bar is one of our recommended restaurants on the island with its beautiful fish and pasta dishes being a speciality. If you do end up there at some point be sure to ask for Anna, a very friendly lady that runs the restaurant who will go out of her way to make sure you're comfortable and given the best possible service.
For a change I'll finish today's blog by giving you the expected temperatures, we're looking at a maximum of 14° Celcius (57° fahrenheit) in the afternoon and dropping no lower than 11°C (52°F) this evening. This spell of nice weather is expected to last at least until Saturday so make the most of it while it's here!
That's all from me today, I'll be back with more tomorrow morning and hopefully a lot earlier than today's effort. Please keep all your e-mails coming in, it's great hearing from you all and we'll do whatever we can to help you plan your trip to Ischia.
A domani!
