GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! WEDNESDAY 22ND JANUARY 2014
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Wednesday 22nd January 2014.
Good morning Ischia!
And a big Happy Birthday to Ischia Review! It's exactly one year to the day since we started the website and what a fantastic year it's been. Casting my mind back to the beginning it makes me chuckle when I consider how basic the site was at the beginning compared to how it is now. Starting with just a few snaps of a week-long holiday from the previous year we set about piecing together the most important and interesting features of the island so that we could share them with the wider world. 365 days later we have over 700 pages of info and several thousand original photos for you.
A year down the line my own personal knowledge of Ischia has been transformed as I've witnessed a full calendar year of culture, weather and events until I knew just about enough to start writing the daily blog. The best thing of all is that there's still so much to learn and many new aspects about island life that I'll be able to share with you all.
The original idea of the site was to inform the uninitiated about the very existence of this little corner of paradise which has so far escaped the kind of media attention and hype (certainly in the English-speaking world) that surrounds some of our near neighbours such as Capri and Sorrento. Despite having travelled extensively through Italy, my knowledge of Ischia was almost zero until the moment I first set foot on its shores and since then I've been trying to work out how such a jewel could have escaped my attention for so long. I assumed that there must be many other people in a similar situation who would love to hear about this wonderful place and explain how they could make the most out of a visit here and decided to create the website.
These days we've gone way beyond just providing an information portal by offering all kinds of services such as boat rentals, accommodation, car, bike and scooter rentals, excursions, guided tours, weddings, linguistic services and much more besides. Our e-mail inbox is bulging with enquiries and questions about the island and it's our absolute pleasure to respond to each and every one of those enquiries with as much help as we can possibly provide. The best part of this job (maybe it's better to call it a vocation than a job) is that it puts us in contact with so many people from across the world and of course from Ischia itself. We've made lots of new friends and we're looking forward to making many more again this year as the site gradually grows and catches the attention of more visitors.
Today's photo has been chosen because it's one of my favourites and a great way to mark the first year completed. My trusty camera has accompanied me every step of the way as I've explored the island in my opinion it managed to perfectly capture the beauty of La Scannella, a slightly hidden little bay in Panza where the colour of the water just makes you want to go and dive right in. Having taken thousands and thousands of photos by now it was difficult choosing my absolute favourite but you can see some of the best ones in our gallery section and I'm sure other people will have their own personal favourites.
Ok that's enough shameless self-promotion for one day! You'll notice I've skilfully avoided talking about the weather thus far, there's a reason for that - it's horrible! Suffice to say that it's raining and it looks set in for the day. Today's temperatures are a replica of yesterday's, a maximum of 13° Celcius (56° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 12°C (54°F) with a good breeze for company.
I got soaked yesterday having made the unwise decision to take the scooter out so I better get my skates on and make my way down to the bus stop soon. Have a great day wherever you are and thanks to you all for visiting the site and for your support throughout our first year. Ok, now for those next 700 pages ;-)
A domani!
