GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! WEDNESDAY 27TH NOVEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Wednesday 27th November 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
On the day when the great Swede, Anders Celsius (he of the centigrade temperature scale) was born, it is fitting that we should start today's blog, as always, with an update on the weather. This morning's production is a slightly grey affair, with very little noise except for the odd chirp here and there from some temporary feathered visitors. Reading the various forecasts however, we should be in for some nice sunny stuff later on with an outside chance of some showers. Now for the bit that our Swedish friend would have enjoyed - temperatures today will be a maximum of 9° celcius (48° fahrenheit) and a minimum of around 7° celcius (45° fahrenheit).
The grey skies of this morning are in stark contrast to the beautiful blue that filled the air when today's chosen photo was taken. This beautiful little beach lies on the northern coast of the island between Ischia Porto and Casamicciola. Realistically, this beach is only reachable by sea and during the summer attracts visitors with small boats and dinghies.
Most of us don't quite have the resources or space to keep a boat all year round but one of the greatest pleasures about coming to Ischia is that you can easily put your nautical skills to the test and hire one for the day. The size of the island make it perfect for spending a day out on the water with much to see and do.
If you were to hire a boat in Forio for example, I would recommend taking a clock-wise tour of the island starting just after breakfast time. You would then sail eastwards towards Lacco Ameno, passing the beaches of La Chiaia and San Francesco before rounding the beautiful Punta Caruso just before the bay of San Montano. The beach at San Montano would be a great place for a quick swim before getting back on the boat to continue on towards the Marina of Lacco Ameno and then Casamicciola where you will pass the beautiful beach in today's photo.
Continuing in a clockwise direction you then pass the busy harbour of Ischia Porto followed by the dramatic scene as you sail past Castello Aragonese on one side and the tiny island of Vivara on the other. Another great place to stop would be the lovely bay of San Pancrazio before turning south towards the magnificent Maronti beach. You will by this stage be starting to get a little bit hungry and the next place you arrive at is the perfect place for a spot of lunch, the pretty fishing village of Sant'Angelo. You can moor the boat there for an hour or two and enjoy some great food in one of the many restaurants in the main town area.
No doubt feeling a little bit sleepy and heavy after lunch, you can hop back on the boat and continue around to La Scannella and do a bit of sunbathing or swimming in the crystal clear water, or trying some snorkelling around the rocks which are full of different types of fish. On the last leg of your journey you pass the Bay of Sorgeto where you could sit in the natural jacuzzi for a while before passing the beaches in Forio of Citara and then Cava dell'Isola.
Sounds fun eh? Just from having written that I want to now go and jump on a boat and do some more exploring around Ischia and if you're planning a visit to the island any time soon you can easily do the same. Just go to our boat rentals page to see which types of craft we have and then drop us a line to get more details and prices etc.
Ok that's all from me today, have a great Wednesday wherever you are and we'll be back tomorrow morning with more from Ischia.
Ciao!
